ReisParticipantGreetings!I'll have some carb nites coming up while I'm traveling, and won't have the advantage of preparing some of the stuff I like to cook for carb nites...most notably sweet potatoes. I saw that Protein Factory sells sweet potato powder: http://bit.ly/19mG7KsI was wondering if anyone has tried this, as it seems like a great way to get in good carbs while on the go. Does anyone know of any disadvantages vs. the real deal? While I know it's always best to go with whole food options, it seems like this would be a good way to get in a high amount of good carbs quickly and easily.

CBachelor17MemberHave not tried it. But if it reflects sweet potatoes as a whole food it should be good. Also you can order Dextrose, Flavor it and Put Enzymes in it off off True Nutrition. If your avoiding Sugars their is also an Organic Rice Dextrose option too.

I use sweet potato flour for all of my CN's . I'm gluten free. Sweet potato flour is the starch of the sweet potato. Just like corn starch or potato starch. so you don't want to bake with it alone. It can be used alone to thicken sauces though. You will want to use it in combo with rice flour and some tapioca starch to make a gluten free flour mix. When they call for potato starch or corn starch you can substitute it with sweet potato starchDon't buy it from ProteinFactory. That's a rip!!Go to an Asian store and get a lb bag for a couple bucks. Most Korean grocery stores will have it. Make sure you don't get the green bean starch though. That is a legume, mung bean, and most likely a slower carb.I am creating recipes for CN nights as well as ULC. Most of my recipes use the sweet potato starch. All of them use rice flour or sweet rice flour. Let me know if you need help creating some gluten free flour blends. I've gotten pretty good at it from baking this past year.. At first everything came out like bricks!!my blog has ULC treats now. But in next couple weeks there will be a section for Post Workout treats or deserts. All my food is gluten free.I don't use sugar though. So you'll have to substitute my stevia with dextrose. I just make sure I eat a lot of rice!!You can email me too!Happy Thanksgiving.Debby

Brandon D ChristParticipantAre you guys serious? It's a carb supplement. Wouldn't you rather eat real food than a shake?

CCTMemberJust use some white rice. Its usually available at most places. Or buy some cereal at a convinience store. there are plenty of other options to enjoy CN on the go other than gulping down carb powders.

For what it's worth I purchased it, and combine it with WPI to kick off most carb nites now, traveling or not. It's delicious and effective. And I also love white rice and cereals, in addition to actual sweet potatoes which I tend to save for later in the carb nite so I can drown them in grass-fed butter.

I saw it. There are so many options you could do besides a shake. For instance, you could pack sandwiches or go out to eat.Plus I am not sure if that sweet potato powder is even a good carbohydrate for CN. The only way sweet potatos are ok for CNs is because they are baked and it changes the structure of the carbohydrates in them. If you want to go the shake route, I would use dextrose. It would be a much better option.
