MiasSchreyerKeymasterIn the 6pm training meal it says for the post training meal “Hypertrophic Potentiator Formula 1 shake p139 (no carbs)”..I thought the entire point of this was to smash carbs post training? And then there is only one meal after the training and it is Protein ~60 grams, Pizza at least 2 slices. As a 215 lbs male this makes no sense. How in the world would I be eating my suggested carb amount with this?Am I missing something here? I need some serious clarification...Also should I wait about 2 hours before eating dinner after my post training meal?

IOWA.PharmDMemberThat is a mistake. If you are carb back-loading, then there should be carbs in your PWO. If you're still hungry, keep eating. You shouldn't be hungry. (remember those guides are just suggestions)You can wait 30-120 minutes. I get really hungry and cannot wait that long after my shake to actually eat.

Tanner FoxParticipantI was slamming carbs PWO RIGHT after the workout. For some reason this was completely killing my appetite. After talking with Kiefer he told me to have hydroslyates and leucine PWO, wait an half an hour to an hour, then slam the carbs. The thought behind this method is that during your low carb phase of the day it is possible you will be in MASSIVE ketosis, and you want these ketones cleared our before adding a huge sugar rush. I was experiencing decreased appetite and dizzyness after the workout and Kiefer said this was most likely why.The Hydrolysate/Leucine combo raises insulin without carbs, so you have one spike there to clear out the ketones, then an hour later you have the influx of carbs which raises insulin even further, and has and overall greater effect.I went back and forth him him on this as I was apprehensive to try it (like your are describing). But after running with it for a month or so the workouts have been more intense than ever and during that 2 hour period I can really slam the carbs. I can easily take in the amount of carbs I need to recover from the workouts.

yannisvGuestSo you you don't use RIBOSE or any other carb on your PWO shake? Then you miss 40-50g of carbs makes sense you have more appetite later!

IOWA.PharmDMemberI think that's person specific. If you can handle it, carbs are optimal.

KieferParticipantThis is somewhat person specific, not having carbs post training versus having carbs. Tanner and I had worked on a few iterations to solve a couple problems. The first was crappy energy during the workout–which we solved. The next was no appetite after the workout with some dizziness and slight tremors if I'm remembering correctly. This can be do to competitive mechanisms to clear both the ketones and glucose which causes a larger insulin release than normal. The ketones clear quickly and production stops, just as the glucose clears quickly. Once you hit mild hypoglycemia, you won't be too hungry for awhile if at all.So, we went with the no-PWO carbs and it solved all the problems (not because of a loss of calories from not having the 40 to 50 grams of carbs PWO, but because of the different hormonal environment that was created).(I apologize for any typos or horrid grammar, as I'm working on 20 hours of sleep total for the last 8 days--and I don't feel like proofreading.)
