Richard SchmittModeratorI don't fully think there is a difference however it could mean doing enough weight to get a pump and a good feeling. Fully concentrating on that movement.

If there is no difference, why aren't they called "leg curls"? 😉Good feeling, pump and fully concentrating on the movement goes for every exercise, no? ;D

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorThe difference is they are meant to prep the CNS for stiff legs allowing you to use heavier weights. Its more then just doing it for hamstring Hypertrophy is why they are specified as activation leg curls.

+1Its like Kiefer describes exploding the bar up on bench to activate the CNS. It might look weird exploding a leg curl, but it will wake up the CNS to accept heavier weights on OTHER exercises. Also doing hammies before quad exercises is a shot in the balls

Brandon D ChristParticipantMy guess is that you pay special attention to activating your hamstrings and getting a really nice contraction, as opposed to exploding with the movement or trying to exhaust the muscle.

pshannonMember“You do your first set with seventy percent and make sure to accelerate the bar as fast as possible. Why?Because force equals mass times acceleration. The faster you can push a weight, the more you're going to activate the nervous system and the high threshold motor units. And the more you do that, the more you'll potentiate your body to get that physiological response to build muscle or strength. Every single rep becomes useful. " Christian Thibaudeau on why to perform these activation sets. I think its not about how much you squeeze I think its about the activation of motor units.
