Thanks. I'll definitely try that because I'm liking the strength gains, but I'm gaining some weight around the mid-section, which is what I was trying to lose.

If anything adjust the backloads or the ULC meals. Sometimes too much junk won't get to your goals, going a little cleaner like sweet potatoes or white rice could prove to be a better choice.

Demetrius SarigiannisParticipantOK guys, I heard Kiefers bit on olive oil in one of the pod casts, and I understand why he says to avoid it, but as a Greek, I've got plenty of it around and I've been using it on salads still.Question: If any of you are eating salads, what kind of oil are you using with your vinegar? Butter and coconut oil are just going to solidify, unless you're just eating sauteed vegetables all the time.

Richard SchmittModeratorUhm want a honest but probably arrogant answer (to you)? Why eat salads? Granted once in a while is ok but you don't need salads day in and day out. The animals eat the grass (veggies) and I eat the meat/veggies in those animals. If you really want a salad, just eat raw. You don't need olive oil or vinegar with it. I used mustard as a dressing if that helps.

LOL. Not really arrogant, but good point. I never really thought about not eating vegetables. I've just traditionally eaten them in salad form every other day for the fiber. This comment has helped me reframe my thinking a bit. I could just add some broccoli and butter to the meat I re-heat for lunch. I suppose on some level I still equate vegetables with eating "healthy". Hard to really get out of that mindset.

Richard SchmittModeratorI understand. I was the same way. While I enjoy eating green veggies, I don't find it necessary anymore and I can put my money towards red meats and eggs.

IsaacGuestHey guys- hope you don't mind if I jump in and revive this thread..I saw earlier you were all recommending our friend cut the whey and fat in his morning drink.Whey- absolutely. Breaks the fast, but I was under the impression that adding CO or MCT oil to your coffee can give you some good-ketosis calories to run on without breaking the 12-hr fast.Is this not what you guys do?I've been doing MCT and a touch of cream in my coffee early AM for 2 months or so now, while holding off on all sources of proteins or trace carbs until the 12-hr mark.

MikehrMemberwhat is your question? what your doing is correct. IF you wanna extend the fast and keep fat burning going CO,MCT or HWC work if you wanna break the fast 10g of whey added to that will do the trick

Whew, When I read this.. I thought I shouldn't use CO HWC.... Then saw this and my hopes were raised again..
Typical dayWake up 5am. Coffee with 1tbsp coconut oil + 15g scoop whey isolateDon't add the coconut oil so early. Should fast at least 12 hours. Don't have isolate. You've already screwed up the day, and it's just started. It will spike your insulin.
I thought CO was out in the morning but now it seems all is well.. I assume they have to be kept in check then..

This is me at the moment.. I have a thing about veggies and need to adapt myself too..

Wait, 10 grams in CO is enough to break the fast? So is the CBL book WRONG? From page 123, just before he describes the AM Accelerator shake: "Increasing free amino acid (FAA) levels stops or attenuates potential destruction of muscle by sparing lean tissue from proteolysis, the technical term for the breakdown of intact protein structures like muscle. A rapid rise in FAA levels in the bloodstream however spikes insulin levels. That’s no good because insulin can stop fat burning.A slow and small rise in FAA levels helps prevent proteolysis and prolong ketogenesis. Whey Isolate to the rescue. Ten grams or so— about half a serving for most commercial formulations —raises FAA levels without over-stimulating insulin release. There may be a small increase, but not enough to derail fat-burning and not enough to throw off ketogenesis."(Note: edited to fix page number - 123 above.)

No, he said a fat source can help extent the fast, but 10g of whey iso will break the fast.
