blkx3MemberOK, so I'm doing CNS. I decided to do CNS rather then CBL because I'm having surgery on Wednesday Dec 19 and I won't be able to workout for 6 weeks. I just had twins 6 months ago and I'm working like an animal to get back into killer shape. I used to compete in figure and LOVE having muscle so I'm not afraid to lift hard and heavy. I also love my HIIT work. I'm 5'4", 140lbs. I would LOVE to be 130lbs. On stage I was 126lbs. 6 months ago when I gave birth to my twins I was 198 so I've come a LONG way 😉Anyway, tomorrow is my next carb nite. The scale hasn't moved much since i started... up and down the same 3 pounds but I do feel a bit leaner and harder since starting. I just want to write a sample of what I've been doing everyday. I have NO been counting calories or weighing or measuring a thing. I just don't have time with 3 children and a busy life. I just want to list the foods I have been eating and please tell me if any of these are not correct on this plan. - coffee with HWC-Coffee with coconut oil and 1 scoop of whey-chicken breaded in ground almonds and cooked in olive oil then I dip the chicken in ranch dressing-ceasar salad with filet mignon-2 whole eggs with cheddar cheese, turkey bacon, smoked salmon-beef burger with cheese, avocado and tomato-QUEST protein bars (they have 2-5g of active carbs) Are these ok?Ok, these are the things I am going to be having my husband cook for me after the surgery and what I have been eating now. Do you all see any problems?

MikehrMemberHey congrats on your progress, I have a few suggestions for you,-plant fats aren't ideal ie almonds, olive oil stick to saturated fats with things like olive oil on rare occasion- the coffee and CO is ok but drop the WPI it spikes insulin, if you do use it use only 10g or a third of a scoop-lean meats like chicken aren't the best choices either but if you add enough fats you could be ok-drop the quest bars the rule for cn is 30 totals carbs max but the closer you are to 0 the betterMost people here basically stick to eggs, bacon, beef and pork. But your definately on the right track best of luck and hope this helps!

I just want to list the foods I have been eating and please tell me if any of these are not correct on this plan. - coffee with HWC Good but time when you do this? You're better off by taking out the HWC and replacing it with the coconut oil since you're having it next.-Coffee with coconut oil and 1 scoop of whey If you want to do the AM Shake, reduce the whey to only 10g, but personally unless you really need it I wouldn't have this. Stick to the coffee with oil at the 12th hour mark or around that time from your last meal.-chicken breaded in ground almonds and cooked in olive oil then I dip the chicken in ranch dressing Ew...have you considered in sticking with red meat? As prescribed for optimal meals? While chicken is great and all, you're much more better off with beef, bacon, and/or eggs. I'll explain more at the bottom.-ceasar salad with filet mignon Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon, grilled with a salad is excellent!-2 whole eggs with cheddar cheese, turkey bacon, smoked salmon The eggs with cheese is great. If you can tolerate dairy and watch out for the trace carbs. Turkey bacon...ew, stick with regular bacon, and the salmon is great too.-beef burger with cheese, avocado and tomato Optimal meal choice right here! Careful with the tomatoes, or a lot of them. And avocados!-QUEST protein bars (they have 2-5g of active carbs) Are these ok? OH NO!!!! RID OF THEM!! The sugar alcohols in them will spike insulin and halting fat burning! Besides those are NOT good for you at all!Ok, these are the things I am going to be having my husband cook for me after the surgery and what I have been eating now. Do you all see any problems?
Awesome job with all the hardwork you're doing and congratulations on your twins! Now, the plant fats (Olive oil, almond oil, mac oil, avocados, nuts, sans coconut oil) are NOT a good idea to have all the time. Occassionally not a problem, and in moderation. They get stored in the fat cells VERY EASILY and they're very difficult to remove out of the system. Also, EVOO is not very healthy anyways. The whey in the mornings , especially a scoop with fats, will not do your body any good besides spike insulin. If you're lifting in the mornings then a shake with whey, lecuine, and creatine is perfect. Also I would time your meals accordingly so you don't fast more than 12 hours from your last whole meal. I personally have my coffee with oil at the 12 hour mark and eat an ULC whole food meal a couple hours after that. Others will tell you differently. With red meats, those are much better for you than what you have above. Steak and burgers are optimal choices. The ratio to try and shoot for varies for person to person. If you lift and are active then you can shoot for .5-1g for fats per target bodyweight, protein I would get .8-1g per target bodyweight. Others might disagree with what I recommend. But you'll have to find what works best for you. Don't stress about adding unnecessary fats to certain foods. Just add butter or coconut oil to when you cook eggs. The yolks have leucine in it and the fat offset an insulin spike in those foods, along with adding fats to chicken. Your carbs should try and shoot for 0g per day. I hope I didn't confuse you and that this helps!

blkx3MemberWow, THANK YOU THANK YOU for this awesome feedback. I'm so glad I asked now before I kept going on the program and not seeing the results I want. What would an ideal day look like for a woman like me? Coffee with coconut oil first thing in the morning... and then...??? I was trying to use the coffee with they whey and oil like an easy to go meal in a cup but now it seems this is not ideal, huh?Is turkey bacon ok? I don't eat any pork 😛Ok, I'll use coconut oil and butter for my cooking and I'll eat a ton of filet mignon and hamburgers. I only found leucine in pill form. Does it come in powder form? How much of each thing is ideal for my shake? What are some easy meal ideas for on the go if I can't have those protein bars and that shake?

You're welcome! Can't say ideal, but as long as you're eating when you're hungry you should be fine. 1g/target BW for protein and getting enough fats is ideal. Coconut oil with coffee is great. Wait a couple hours or whatever works best to have an ULC whole food meal. The scoop of whey as an go-to meal is not ideal no, try making stuff ahead of time and take with you. You can find leucine in powder form yes, you can find some at True Nutrition or Serious Nutrition Solutions make some you can purchase. There is a thread that contains great go-to/on-the-go meals you can look on!

blkx3MemberBig Tex, I'm going to admit I'm now a bit underwhelmed at the food choices and what I can eat on this diet. I want to do this right SOOO badly and It seems I've already been messing things up. Have a lot of things changed since he wrote this book? Now it seems we aren't supposed to have so many things that I thought we could…. like diet soda and jello?? salad dressing? I got the idea for the shake from the CBL book. Is that shake ok for CBL but not ok for Carb Nite?

The less processed your food is during the week the better the results are and the quicker they come. The morning Shake is okay to have whey, just not more then 10g, that's per the CBL book.

I understand, as is everyone who first starts. because this is new and different. It'll get easier as the time passes on. But a lot has changed yes. Most of it can be found on the forums. Diet soda is honestly out the window, HOWEVER if you can find ones with Aspartame you'll be fine. Stuff with Ace-K, Acesulfame Potassium can spike insulin which will stop fat burning, kinda...if you have too much of it then it can halt progress, however moderation is key and is ok. Salad Dressings...unless it's Walden Farms, or low carb options that are "ok", then I wouldn't bother with those. Save them for a CN if you wanted. Or try to make your own! Jello is ok, but honestly what works best is discipline and not giving into cravings. Just eat normal ULC foods (like meats) and wait to indulge in treats on the CN. Whey, leucine, and creatine is a perfect ULC shake yes, the measurement amounts are great as well.

blkx3MemberHonestly, I want to cry. I feel like I wasted this time doing a diet and it wasn't even correct. I read the book but now all this has changed. Why doesn't he rewrite the book? What about people who don't find the forum? They are following a book and diet that aren't even correct. I suggested the book to 3 other people because I was so excited and now they have been doing it all wrong too. this is so embarrassing. :-[

Seeing as the book in it's current print has still helped people lose weight and lean down over the past 5 years, it isn't all bad.It may no l longer be optimal in lieu of new information, but it's surely a better choice than any fad diet book you could have recommended to your friends.

samuel r walkerParticipantIf you want to drink soda try Virgil's Zero, its sweetned with only stevia and contains no sugar alcohols and only natural flavorings. I buy it at my local health store but you can also order online

MikehrMemberMy favorite ULC drink is lemon juice+a good amount of stevia and a mint leaf, very refreshing, gets rid of beef breat lol, stevia helps with digestion and lemon/mint also helps lower the acididty of your stomach.
