Amino acids cause insulin response?

    I heard that amino acids (similarly to whey protein shakes) cause an insulin response and DO break fast. Anyone confirm? I'm talking about the pure disgusting bitter white form not the BCAA drinks mixed with aspartame and aritifical flavouring.

    You have to look at what the amino are that make up the product you are talking about.

    In short, yes it will cause an insulin spike. Yes, it does break the fast as well.I know you just started posting but the search function is actually very useful in answering questions as most things have been talked about in detail before.

    I think spike is probably the wrong word to describe the insulin response from BCAAs.  There is a response, but it is pretty minimal.  Nothing like what you get from carbohydrates.
