badmunky11MemberAs title says, any NO2 products available that wont throw off fat burning for the rest of my day (I work out 5am-6am). I've been drinking coffee, but I must admit I do miss the pre workout NO2 shakes. Am I stuck with coffee or are there certain brands of NO2 I can still use?

Richard SchmittModeratorSave your money and just get some coffee and possibly add caffeine powder to it.

I add a pinch of salt + a serving of Citrulline Malate to my pre and post workout shakes... gives an incredible pump (the CM is better than Arginine).I hate brand name products for those types of mixes. I prefer to buy the raws, as shit as they might taste, and mix my own concentrations. Far more effective, no fillers, no artificials, and cheaper by bulk.Cory

badmunky11MemberDo you mix anything else in besides the CM?

My entire current pre-workout mix?First, I consume 16 oz. black coffee (for fat-burning and energy) w/ 5mg melatonin (to prevent GH breakdown) and 1g taurine (for overall performance). Then, I consume in 16 oz. water:-pinch of salt (for pump)-3g Citrulline Malate (for pump)-5g Creatine Monohydrate (for strength & mass)-1.5g Beta Alanine (to reduce lactic acid, push harder)-5g GABA (for GH enhancement)-10g L-Glutamine (for GH and recovery)-2.5g Acetyl-L-Carnitine (for fat loss and hormone optimization / absorption)...tastes like utter shit (gotta plug the nose & gulp), but it works. Been tweaking this concoction for years.Cory

Does that homemade pre workout save you money? Or does it cost more than the average pre workout?

Definitely save, in the long run. I can buy raws in bulk, and my mixes will last me months (3 or more), as opposed to paying $30-50 for 1 month supply + a brand name, loads of fillers and crap ingredients I don't want in my body. Then, there is the control and tweak factor. You don't get that with proprietary blends.Cory

Peter HuntParticipantJust wanted to say thanks for this list, Cory 🙂 a lot of these supps are currently on offer at MyProtein (UK) so I've stocked up on beta alanine, citrulline malate and considered ALCAR but decided against it this time.

You're very welcome, Tigerite. Consider the ALCAR in the future, as I've come to rely on it over the years. 🙂Cory

Peter HuntParticipantI thought long and hard about it, but the offer wasn't as great (only 25% off; CM was 50%) and the comments seemed to suggest it needs to be taken with alpha-lipoic acid which they don't stock. Someone even claimed it has to be paired with 80g of carbs but I'm sure that's a load of rubbish!

Weird. Sounds like reviewers who don't really understand the supplement. The two primary uses for ALCAR are fat mobilization and increasing hormone receptor sites on muscle cells (notably that for Testosterone). Neither end would require carbs or ALA to achieve.Cory

Peter HuntParticipantI've been hunting around for research on this and it seems that ALCAR on its own can cause an increase in oxidative damage because of the increased mitochondrial function, so ALA (in its R-ALA form) is added because it is a powerful mitochondrial antioxidant. The full article is here if you're interested 🙂
