AliotuaMemberI realize this would be pretty difficult, but I was eating paleo a while back and having trouble keeping weight on. If I was to go heavy on the sweet potatoes, carrots, potatoes, etc (starch), do you think it would work well with CBL?My main issue was that, in an attempt to avoid those high-GI foods, I basically ended up not eating carbs and, therefore, lost weight. However, I felt a lot better during that time. I just need to find a way to keep weight on for football while feeling good and, possibly more importantly, looking good

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorQuite of few of us do.Use white and sweet pototes, white rice, and root veggies. If you'd like you could also do some baking with white rice flour and tapioca flour and use dextrose to sweeten things, it might not fall 100% with paleo, but it's better then gluten containing grains and table sugar.

AdamFiddlerGuestProtein: Grass-Fed Beef/Pastured EggsFat: Avocados/Grass-Fed Butter/BroccoliCarbs: Yams boiled and then whipped in blender to increase GIThere you go. Paleo CBL. If the above list contains some foods you don't believe to be Paleo, then just cut those out and you will still be left with an effective and good tasting menu.-Adam

As the guys above said, it's definitely possible. The question is whether you could improve your ability to gain and keep mass by swapping out some paleo starches for more highly processed ones. You'll only know from experimentation.White rice, potato starch, and tapioca starch -- the basic building blocks of gluten-free baked goods -- are extremely powerful foods for increasing lean mass due to their quick digestion and high glycemic loads. (Also quite good at making you fat, but following CBL prevents this.)If you are a hard gainer, sticking to "safe starches", Paleo-style, may not help you as much as the "clean gluten free" approach might. But again... you should test this for yourself!

CptSmashMemberWhen I return to the US I will probably find this approach more useful since my wife and I both live on a Paleo type diet, however, I have no ability to live entirely Paleo while deployed. Sometimes it is feasible, other times not. I definately think you can get just as much insulin response out of whole foods that would be part of a Paleo lifestyle though...v/rGremlin
