FairyGuestIt's an interesting debate. Yesterday I worked out then swam for HIIT for 20 min. An hour later my EPOC was still through the roof! I'd already taken my PWOS (30 min PWO), but it struck me that I should still be burning extra fat 1 hr PWO (if not for the insulin spike).Anyway, trying not to major in the minors here, but it would be great to read an article from someone who's already thought it all through when it comes to fatloss for women specifically.

John Meadows probably has some good info, but unfortunately you have to pay for his website.

FairyGuestI'm sure it's worth whatever the fee is if your goal is to look like him!

Cory McCarthyMemberYou shouldn't lose any muscle on Carb Nite, even without an intra shake.
No doubt, and I don't.I was just saying b/c it was mentioned above, as a reason for taking whey / BCAAs intra.Cory

It's $10 a month I think. Someone as smart as you though should be able to find what you are looking for pretty easily. You can even get him on the phone for an hour for $200 haha.

storm47MemberTo anyone,How long do your workouts last? (My workout lasts tyically a hour)How long do you typically wait between sets? (I wait 60 to 90 seconds between sets)I drink one Intra-Workout shake with BCAAs at the start of my workout. Since I only workout one hour, should I drink it 30 minutes before my workout. I am concerned that by the time my body digests my Intra-Workout shake with BCAAs my workout is almost be completed.

1. An Hour and a half2. Since I am a Powerlifter, as long as I needI would drink your shake after your first working set and finish it about 20 min before your workout ends or if you don't drink your post workout shake until like a half hour after your workout, sip on it to the workout is almost over.

FairyGuestSince I'm female I wait 3 min between sets (walking on a treadmill, finally found a use for them!).I actually don't time my workouts. They take as long as they take.

1. 60 minutes most days... 90 minutes on some leg sessions.2. Depends, but usually 60-90 seconds. Studies have show this to be optimal for fat burning, and adequate for recovery. In my own training, I've found this to work well. Furthermore, 60-90 seconds keeps GH and Test elevated. When I do power sets (like heavy doubles, etc.), I rest upwards to 3 minutes. However, I usually train for hypertrophy, and cycle in some power training to bring up core lifts (DLs, Squats and Bench).Cory

And also the possibility of gaining MORE muscle. Theres no way you are not breaking down some muscle during a workout. Therefore anything you can take to minimize this is going to help total muscle gain. I dont doubt that you wont lose muscle on CNS or CBL without an intra-workout beverage but you will most certainly be breaking down more than if you had a intra-workout shake.

I have added a little muscle on CNS... but, never lost any. As I said above, all I've taken intra on CNS is creatine w/ salt in 16 oz. water. I feel CNS is FAR more strict than CBL, b/c it is geared towards optimal fat loss w/ muscle preservation, not muscle growth.Cory

guitarjonParticipantI took BCAAs for a time early last year. I didn't know much about supplements at that point and I can't say whether they had any effect on me. I was only just starting to get serious about my training and I don't think I was in tune with my body enough to notice the effects either way. I'm wondering now whether I should start incorporating these again. Currently my pre-workout supps are:5 g creatine, 3 g BA, 500 mg PS, caffeine and a pinch of salt.Intra is 5 g creatine, 2 g BA and a pinch of salt.PWO is 5 g creatine, 500 mg PS, caffeine, 15 g PeptoPro, 25 g whey iso, 5 g leucine and a pinch of salt.

MikehrMemberI dont think BCAAs make a huge difference when your diets in check, I just like them because I feel like they help me push a little harder, help with replenishing some lost minerals and a little reassurance of no muscle loss is nice.

I agree; they might not be absolutely necessary but it's definitely better to be safe than sorry. I'd rather hedge my bets with BCAAs.

BCAAs don't have minerals in them or provide energy 😮They prevent tissue breakdown during exercise and promote recovery after exercise, but also prevent fatloss.
