Yeah we never said aspartame causes spikes but can stall progress.

Did Kiefer say this? Cant recall myself, but I obviously cant remember everything tangential. I find the satiety info quite interesting but I have zero problems with will power so Im not worried about that angle. It is purely the insulin response I would be considering on CBL.

I believe it was discussed in a previous podcast. Talked about ace-k and such.

That was one of the earlier ones when Naomi was still around wasnt it? Id go hunting for it if I cared enough. Maybe someone with an interest in justifying their Diet Soda addiction might like to add that info here for those interested! (:

He said he thinks aspartme has some sort of effect.  Personally I think it's bullcrap same with Ace-K.

Exactly, that's why I said it can stall but not necessarily spike anything.

I do enjoy my diet Mountain Dew but I think it's just good practice to stick with water, coffee, tea, etc., regardless of possible effect on insulin.

+1 to this, the most I use is stevia during ULC, and that is only in my whey mix (by request).Cory

My only concern for artificial sweeteners is whether the amount in my chewing gum (wiggles extra) could spike insulin or not. I usually chew them throughout the day but this week I'm cutting them out to see if it has any effect on me (plus the mental addiction I have to them can't be healthy).

Sugar Alcohols are different. They raise blood sugar levels, causing an insulin spike. There is only ONE sugar alcohol that is safe and does NOT raise blood sugars or raise insulin.

Hey Tex, do have a link to the sugar alcohols to avoid?

Do you have the CNS book? It has a cut-out page in there that lists ones to avoid. Anything with a funky -itol (for example) is something to avoid. I wish I could speak it or say it because it'll help you understand what I mean.

Just looking at food porn can elevate grehlin levels: http://www.emaxhealth.com/1275/pictures-delicious-food-may-contribute-weight-gainWouldn't surprise me if tasting sweet food prepped your body to release insulin

And on that topic, super markets make very little profit on their fresh baked goods. The main purpose of the bakery is to get the smell of fresh bread in the air to make shoppers feel hungrier and buy more food.
