TriniechuMemberSo I've been on carb nite for 3 months now and I'm getting a little bored of the food.My results are pretty awesome though but I've just been feeling blahhh with the foodand missing certain foods like oatmeal and bananas for breakfast or even cereal in the morning.Would it be wise to take a break for a week and the start reorientation again? Or should I just keep going for another 3 months. What would happen if I stopped for week?My bf doesnt want me to stop but eating the same thing everyday hasnt been appetizing lately. What should I do? Has anyone ever gotten tired of carb nite and took a quick break from it?Thank you in advance 🙂Katrina

GnomerParticipantcurious why eat the same thing everyday? there are tons of ulc foods out there.. imho if you want to add in a bowl of oatmeal or something else once a day and still do CN you can. If you want just do a LC for awhile like 100-150 carbs a day and eat what you enjoy for those 150 carbs

why not eat fruit? i eat fruit on all my ULC days and lots of veggies as well... 1 serving of oatmeal isn't going to ruin a ulc day

TriniechuMemberFor some reason, I thought fruits weren't allowed like apples and bananas. But I think I'm going to read the book again on the types of foods i can have.

some fruits have a lot more sugar than others like bananas wouldn't be a great choice.. berries are a good choice

Richard SchmittModeratorAnd that's where the confusing comes into play. Oatmeal…and other carbs, especially low GI.Okay so somethings are okay ULC, a small serving of berries seem to be okay, BUT if you have body fat to lose and really want to lost it, why jeopardize the end goal? You can have fruits on the CN, you should not be missing them then. Oatmeal on a CN, the sugary instant stuff might be okay on a CN not ULC day. I do suggest opening up on the ULC food choices, the weird thing is that you're finding it non-appealing? Are you not cooking? Is it just salt and pepper blandness? I would start looking up some dinners that will be great for ULC. Even carby dinners on a CN. Check out the CNS-ers Logs.

for me I don't believe a little fruit during ULC will jeopardize anything and if it adds some needed variety for people to stick with things I'd say go for it.. imho some fruit even on ULC days is more beneficial than harmful

Richard SchmittModeratorLittle bit no, but most folks (not meaning Triniechu) tend to over-eat these types of “treats”. Then come back venting on “not progressing”. Moderation is the ultimate key.

RookieMemberThe CNS book has some really great and simple meals you can make as well as experimenting with your own.A personal favourite of mine are the brownies. For your meals, why not add a couple of sides and mix it up a little.Instead of having eggs, have scrambled eggs. or make an omelette.Pancakes using protein powder and Hershey's sugar free syrup.Cottage cheese, ranch dressing, bacon bits and a few cherry tomato's is a neat little side.Boil up some ULC veg's and then melt some cheese through them.ULC wraps, with grilled chicken/ground beef, refried beans, salsa, lettuce, sour cream and make some burritos. No offence, but it sounds like you're just being lazy....Be careful about taking a break though... It may lead to a falling off the wagon.

Lesli BortzParticipantIf you're doing CNS then fruit isn't ideal unless in a very small quantity. I don't think oatmeal fits in anywhere on an ULC day. I see what sano is saying but he comes from a less than strict version of these protocols. If you want to do CNS then you should do it within its parameters. If you want to just eat healthier or enjoy your foods then that's not CNS but is still a very suitable/healthy way of eating in general. If you're three months in and not liking the diet then you may just want to switch to another. A week off won't do any harm you'll just have to reorient if you decide to resume these protocols.I've been doing them almost 18 months and for some reason the ULC foods are still amazing to me, so it's a good fit.

for me I did CBL for about 3 months how it's written.. it worked ok but not any better than any other carb cycling diet I have tried.. so tweaking it to fit my needs and what I enjoy has allowed me to keep at it for over 6 months now and now it's been working better than when I first started it... all i'm saying is sometimes "going by the protocol" isn't always the best for people especially if they stuck to it for a decent amount of time... If you can make small tweaks and keep the general concept you can easily make it more of a lifelong way of eating aside from just another short term diet. While 30g of carbs on ULC is ideal and playing it safe many could get the same results and benefits from going 50g-75g of carbs a day as well(especially for females)

Unfortunately if you add things back my fear is that you will destroy any progress you have made. Diet breaks are silly IMO. Psychologically to go from restricting a food group to adding back in without restriction is not going to be good, its open season. I miss fruit sometimes so I make sure I include pineapples and bananas on my CN. Also the flavored kids oatmeals are a better option as they have quite a bit more sugar if you are craving oatmeal. Having smaller and more frequent CNs (every 4-5 days) but having less volume of carbs might also help psychologically as well. Lots of roads to get there , unfortunately if there is no structure is when progress regresses.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorHonestly, I think if you need a break from CNS then CBL will be the best way to go. It will allow you to add carbs back while causing minimal backslide and still partially restricting them which makes starting CNS back up easier.

TriniechuMemberWow thanks for all the advice guys! its really much appreciated and made me think about things. I havent decided yet if I'm going to take a break or not. But im definitely going to look up recipes and etc. Even if i did take a break I wasnt going to eat crap like I used to 😛 I was still going to keep it somewhat low carb and after a week I was going to reorient again. I wasnt planning on stopping carb nite for good. For almost 2 years I've lost a total of almost 50 pounds. Lost 16 with carb nite in 3 month. Thank you again everyone! 🙂
