mda1125GuestGreat thread…Last night was my first post workout of CBL. I went for the "dirty" sources I guess? They were store bought but from Trader Joe's. Tried to avoid any hints of trans-fats but avoiding fat was impossible of course.* mini triple chocolate bundt cake* mixed berry turnovers* red licorice* rice puddingNailed my 409g from the post-workout shake w/carbs onward. Had to split this up into multiple little snacks and added in a couple of 10g of hydrolyzed whey, 10g of whey isolate and ~5g of leucine. Bump up that insulin but slam in some protein as well.I like the dextrose, maltodextrin or waxy maize idea. Less fat! But still get those carbs. I just don't want to be drinking all my carb meals of course but it might help me eliminate some of those constant sugar meals that did cause me to feel a wee bit "sick?"It seems the best idea is to have lots of heavy less filling hitters to get me to 409g as quickly as possible. I don't want to be eating 6 more "snacks" up until 10pm when I hit the pillow.First day of back loading went well. Woke up just as lean as the day before. Did not feel bloated. Am not starving this morning as I drink my A.M. Accelerator formula and then follow up with just some regular black coffee.

Gl;itch.eMember* red licorice
I found this actually bloated me like crazy. I didnt notice till after I brought it that wheat was a big part of the ingrediants. Which is strange because I have no problems with buns/cakes etc.

zenarcherGuestMy two favorites are sticky rice, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

dudsyMemberThe peak of dextrose is higher than the one from maltodextrin (the curve of maltodextrin is different: left dextrose, right maltodextrin) and dextrose is sweeter. (Be careful when using too much, some people get nausea)
I would love to see more results like this for things like Ace-K, splenda, cheese, eggs etc. It would be helpful to see how much these really do spike insulin during the the ULC portion of the diet.

bdtillmanGuestfor those of you looking at malto and dex… check this site out. http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/magazine03/dextrose.htm#measurements. It explains why you want a 50/50 mix.

webbyMemberI've seen on a few sites that baked beans cause a huge insulin response? Could they be THE best food given that they contain carbs, protein and cause insulin to spike?

The protein in beans is incomplete. I don't think there's a better combo for insulin response than the shakes Kiefer suggests(i.e., hydrolysates, dextrose, leucine). I have also read elsewhere that anything not in this elementary of a form will take more time to get into the system, thus limiting the insulin response per time period.

CainoParticipantI always thought waxy maize was best?

I think waxy maize and dextrose are roughly the same as far as backloading is concerned.

dudsyMemberJelly snakes. A few handfuls of those will give you a quick 100g of nearly pure glucose. Taste good & not too filling.

Well, i guess that's fine, unless webby wants to consume his baked beans as a PWO shake. You also eat whole foods like meat and starches and not just glucose monomers and amino acid monomers, don't you?The combination of white rice, baked beans and some meat sounds perfect to me. Complete protein from meat, loads of quick carbs from the rice, and an additional big insulin spike from the beans (Here is the paper...).

This is true. I was still under the assumption we were talking about immediately PWO. I thought Baked Beans also incorporated lots of sucrose, but if that's not true, I don't see a problem.

webbyMemberSorry if it seemed like I was talking about PWO…I was talking about during the backload given the large insulin spike they give off. I'm gonna try it overt the next few weeks and see if it makes any difference!

Yea, let us know how it goes! They don't seem like they'd be a great choice when you just look at them, but I've never taken a look at the insulin responses.

webbyMemberI was like 😮 when I first came across that they spike insulin. Then I searched it on google and there was quite a few different sources showing that they gave a large insulin response!Beans and chicken on a baked potato tomorrow night it is!
