TriniechuMemberSo I did some research on the forum before I posted this up.I read up on bulletproof coffee, looks like it would aid me with my fatloss, give me more energy than regular coffee and get the healthy fats that I need. I know the recipe says coffee, grass fed butter, coconut/Mct oil. But my question is...can we use any type of coffee or coffee beans? I read online and they actually have bulletproof coffee beans and the Mct oil to make the "right recipe". Has anyone used any other type of coffee asides from the one being sold online? Some recipes say I can use stevia to it as well, but it's better not to use sugar or any type of artificial sweeteners. Thank you in advance guys!! πSent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

SpatzModeratorYou don't need the special beans. I tried them and even planted a few and none grew into the sky and gave me a magic goose who laid golden eggs. Quite a let down letmetellyou! In all seriousness, you can make bulletproof coffee with regular beans. There "may" be a little benefit from using his beans, but not enough to count in my opinion. Also, I use a little bit of Torani's Sugar Free coffee syrup for mine, I'm sure its not the best sweetener but I hardly have to use much at all, maybe 1/8th of a tsp? maybe 1/4th at most for my coffee? It really sweetens it. I made the mistake of using the whole serving size one time (1tsp) and I threw out the coffee since it was way overboard on the sweet-scale.So in summery: Any coffee beans, and I'm sure your little bit of sweetener won't make a difference.

Thank you so much for that! I was wondering if it was worth it to buy the "special beans" and wait for it to get shipped to me.Also one more question! I have a Kuerig coffee machine. So I have the little k-cups to make one cup of coffee. You think it would be ok to use that type of coffee? Or it has to be fresh grinder beans?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

SpatzModeratorOn that question I have very little experience. I would assume k-cups would be “fine,” but fresh ground would probably definitely be better. If you really wanted to go with fresh ground you can buy refillable k-cup containers and fill with your own fresh ground coffee. I definitely would not suggest buying a new coffee pot just for Bullet Proof coffee! Also, we grind our own coffee with a little OLD coffee grinder we found at a goodwill for $1! Very simple grinder, and it sure does the trick. Or a lot of stores have grinder stations, I know our HEB, Sprouts, Whole foods, AND Sams club all have grinder stations. So you get your coffee beans, grind them, and then purchase them. Then you can stick them in your special little k-cups reusable coffee filter, and bingo! Fresh coffee that probably tastes better than your old k-cups that are sitting on the shelf ground for who-know-how-long.So, personal preference.Edit: Oh, also if you just wanted to try the k-cup reusable filter you can get it from Bed Bath & Beyond and if you didn't like it at all you can return it. No time limit, just hold onto your receipt. Or not, they do non-receipted returns for store credit. I love their return policy. π

TriniechuMemberYessss I actually have the coffee filter for the Kuerig so this will be great! Oh the coffee filters work great! Glad they have coffee grinders at whole foods! I'm sure they have it at Wegmans too πSent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Sharon WParticipantI make my bp coffee with a reusable k-cup filter and fresh ground coffee. I brew a small cup with the oil and butter in there so it melts. I whiz that up with the immersion blender right in the cup and then fill with another small cup of coffee, which fills my mug to the top. that way I don't need to use another container for mixing it.

TCBParticipantThe big deal about the actual “Bulletproof” branded coffee beans is that they're high quality, single-sourced organic, etc.. You can find the same quality locally if you look at any natural markets, co-ops, etc. I buy my coffee as organic, fair trade, from a local roast house. Coffee is one of the most highly sprayed (with pesticide/fungicide) crops, that's why the emphasis on single source, organic, etc.But yes, you can use any coffee you want. As far as your K-cup, lots of people use that just fine. I know if you look around online, you can even find single source, organic, fair trade k-cups. Or you could get the little reusable k-cups and fill them with whatever type of coffee you like. And there's no reason to buy the bulletproof branded MCT oil either.

TriniechuMemberThanks so much guys! you guys are awesome! πCan you guys suggest any type of MCT oil for me? or it doesnt really matter ?Yeah I read on the bullet proof coffee site, that their coffee is better. Not to just use any type of coffee, no roasted and organic coffee beans. Im guessing, it's just a selling gimmick!Β >:(Also, is MCT oil more beneficial than coconut oil? I read you can use coconut oil too, but mct oil i better...but why??? lol

Richard SchmittModeratorHave you read the oil article on the Athlete.io site?

Sharon WParticipantI know I like the taste of coconut in my coffee and I get an organic, expeller pressed CO, so there are other health benefits to that, like the lauric acid, which I am pretty sure is not in the MCT oil. I tolerate the CO better and can have more of it. Article on site: http://athlete.io/5266/why-vegetable-and-nut-oils-suck/

Tracy JarchowParticipantMy wife and I are HUGE bulletproof coffee fans. We use a k-cup machine. I like the Newmans coffee and she likes to grind hers and use the k-cup filter. I make mine with 4 tbs of Kerrygold butter, 2 tbs of Now Foods MCT oil and 1 tbs of Trader Joes organic coconut oil. Then blend it in our Magic Bullet and have some awesomeness! My wife prefers half of the butter, MCT oil and coconut oil but she drinks two of them a couple hours apart as she found having too much at once bothers her stomach a bit.

Holy Crap! Literally...Is that per 8oz-ish of coffee? I'm with your wife. I'd be hurting, something fierce!Side note: I love TJ's coconut oil. It's a damn good price compared to many brands, and it tastes great.
