ARMANDO R QUINTAL-SParticipantIs caffeine needed in the A.M. Accelerator an the Ignition formula needed to prevent the insulin spike from whey or is the coconut oil or coconut milk enough, could I have some casein for both shakes? Will that prevent the insulin spike?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorCaffeine doesn't prevent an insulin spike. It's more to increase fat burning and coffee to help with hunger. You could skip using coffee if you want though.

ARMANDO R QUINTAL-SParticipantThanks Trevor, so i should be fine with a preworkout shake of 10g of whey and 3 cups of coconut milk?

I'm assuming you mean the carton coconut milk?If you want to then go ahead. A lot of the shakes in the book aren't really used anymore and they were never a requirement to use.

ARMANDO R QUINTAL-SParticipantYeah the carton one, but I do like having a preworkout, and I guess i have to pair the protein with some fats like Kiefer says right?

Robert x OlearyParticipantCups of coconut milk? Or tablespoons? This is waaaaaay too much sugar if you're using it in the ULC part of the day if cups. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ARMANDO R QUINTAL-SParticipantI use the unsweetened one, i dont use any sugar in the ULC part of the day

Brandon D ChristParticipantIt's actually coffee not caffeine, that Kiefer recommends in the morning. Coffee, even decaf, has an interesting property of raising cortisol levels in the morning. This results in an enhanced fat burning effect, assuming you are low carb in the morning.

Actually, caffeine is what effects cortisol and increase fat burning.Coffee, namely the cholinomimetics in coffee (Decaf too) effects hunger control.

My bad. I do recall reading this somewhere though.

Wow, I just learned something new off this... I've been doing a tbs of HWC and a Tsp of CO... This may be a MUCH better avenue in the future, and easier to keep at my Gf's since its once container that lasts much longer.

Whew good to know it is the caffeine. I take capsules, coffee just doesn't agree with me for some reason. I'd much rather tough out the hunger pangs than deal with the coffee turning my gut into a percolating disaster.

Rob, FWIW I can't drink black coffee on an empty stomach either, but adding heavy whipping cream (enough to turn it light brown) makes all the difference.

Richard SchmittModeratorI drink tea (regular or green) with added caffeine. Helps for a bit too.

Jarret MattaParticipantI used to do the CO & caffiene preworkout when i was doing programs like 5/3/1 because the volume wasnt over whelming. But since doing Meadows MountainDog programs i find that peri-workout nutrition is key. And Meadows even states that Carbs during workout isnt for everyone. Mainly those who are busting tail and putting everything into their workouts. Not sure who has tried any of his programs but i typically have peri-workout Carbs for his legs, chest, and back day. Legs are a thrashing and it helps me get through. For secondary days and arms i dont need peri-workout carbs. I typically stay low carb during day, periworkout, wait an hr then Backload as normal.
