pokerpariahKeymasterHi,Sorry this is my first post but I only have this one simple but critical question right now and I don't see a straight answer in the forum just yet.I lost 11.5 lbs on the 10 day VLC period. The eBook says I can backload ~1050g CHO. This seems really ridiculous. I am a really big guy but I can't begin to eat that much carbs in 4-5 hours unless I start drinking liquid sugar or something.I think the most I have ever got in was around 500g.I am concerned I am not backloading enough carbs and also wondering if I am supposed to be in Ketosis or not and if I've somehow screwed up and need to do the 10 day period over again. I think I am following all aspects of the program other than lower amount of carbs but I don't think I've lost any fat yet in 2 1/2 weeks. Hard to tell this early I suppose.I lift really hard 3 days a week doing SS routine and I just cant tell if I need more/less carbs to do it right.I could come up with a better, more complete post, I am just busing this out while I am at work so I'm in a hurry. Thanks

pokerpariahGuestHi Big Tex,Sorry if my questioning doesn't make sense. My mind is all over the place because I have a lot of questions even after reading the book several times already.Based on my weight lose during the 10 day prep phase, the advice is to consume 1000g of high GI carbs during that nights feasting period. Do you think I should take that to heart and try to get that many carbs in and if so, can you give me some practical advice on how to do that without also slamming many hundreds of extra fat calories in things like pizza and donuts etc...Honey Smacks seems to be one of the best things I have found gram for gram sugar content.I love eating food and I'd love to just gorge on as much as possible to be quite honest but I also don't want to gorge just because that is what _I_ want to do vs. the right thing to do as a part of the program.

pokerpariahGuestCasey,I have searched several times for the answer and couldn't come up with a satisfactory response. If you really think I am missing it then I can go back and search again. Maybe my search terms are not good enough to narrow down to relevant posts.I always searh before I ask questions and honestly didn't see this answered.

pokerpariahGuestI see, there is no exact answer but I did refine my search looking specifically for 'determine baseline carbs' which is the section in the book. For me, since I am over 30% BF. I should tend towards a lower amount than the 1000g upper limit mentioned in the book so I can lose that fat more easily (if I interpreted the myriad of posts correctly).I am ok with being more moderate and perhaps hitting 500g of CHO or so and seeing how it goes for a couple more weeks before drawing any conclusions. I mean, I haven't gained any weight which is a plus and I do seem to still be getting stronger at this point so I must have gained some muscle and lost some fat whether I realize it or not.

If you're over 30% BF why not do CNS for a while? Lose the body fat then switch back to CBL SA? You don't have to get 1000g worth of carbs that evening It's really a max amount especially with the body weight to chart for the carbs. Its a max and you work with that amount. If you lost that great amount I personally think that CNS will do you some good.

I feel your pain...well, sort of. Mine isn't a conundrum of higher bodyfat % and doubting the need for x # of carbs.I'm supposed to be able to consume up to 850...I still haven't gotten there! I'm under 10%, so I'm not scared to push it...I just, well, that's a lot of freaking food! I'm trying my best to get it up to the higher level, but I do agree. That amount of food is really tough to shovel in!

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorSooo… The delta chart is a estimation of the max number of carbs you can store, it is not a goal to shoot for more then everyone once in awhile for fun.

This makes sense to me. I wish he had just said that in the book.

Yeah, I thought about that but since I am working out pretty darn hard 3 days a week I had understood that CNS was not the right path. I definately have the BF% to justify doing it. Are there folks doing CNS that also work out hard? I guess I missed that. Will do some searches.

FairyGuestI've said this like a million times. But the best way to know how many carbs to eat is through experience.a) Listen to your body. Don't force feed yourself. Eat what your body wants you to eat.b) Observe what you feel like/look like the next morning and take notes (literally). Then tweak until you get it just right.Don't expect it to be perfect first time you do it. This protocol requires you to be in tune with your body for it to work and that's something that takes a learning curve.

You can workout hard on CNS, you just have to cut down on frequency and at some point volume.3 days a week with SS is fantastic for CNS. Have the most intense session be the day after carb nite, next would be the second most intense, and the "easiest" session the last one of the week.

FairyGuestTrevor, I don't know what your definition of 'working hard' is, but I'm having trouble working out how I want to on CNS
I think it's better suited to minimal exercise.

You do a lot of climbing, right?Aren't your sessions normally pretty long?
