szharkMemberSo i've been on Carb Nite for about 6 months now.. Really enjoying it, saw some great gains at the beginning, but things have certainly stalled a bit. That being said, i am typically *dreading* my actual carb nite. I stick with rice - fruit- fruity pebbles - pizza - most of the recommendations i've found here. My problem is I feel like absolute crap! I have allergies (which go away on ULC days), and on carb nite, they are horrible! My nose gets stuffed, my asthma kicks in.. i feel bloated, lethargic and sick.I know that the carb nite is a necessity on this program, i'm just wondering if there is a way to not feel so bad on the actual carb nite. Has anyone had these experiences and have any input on getting carbs without the pain?thanks!

GnomerParticipanti had a very similar issue when i was going ULC for longer periods especially with the allergies.. I found doing a lot less carbs worked well or splitting into two a week so you don't put down as many in a single day… currently i eat carbs everyday but just limit the amount to a lot less than i used to take in everyday and has helped those issues.. oh also dropping wheat helped a good bit as well

CBachelor17Membertry cleaning up the CN some. Not saying switch what type of food your eating, but maybe what they are made of. Gluten free pizza, and cereal for example. Home make what you can and rid of processed and packaged foods. Including your rice. That would be the first thing I would try.

TCBParticipantStuffy nose/congestion is often a sign that you don't handle dairy well.. I'd also try a period without dairy and see if that helps.(In addition to trying gluten free, of course.)As for stalling, try incrementally, over a couple weeks, increasing food quantity during ULC days.

true i dropped dairy and wheat and my allergy symptoms have almost vanished.. i seem to get some nose issues if I do a very heavy night of carbs but aside from that just dropping dairy and wheat solved most my issues and was able to stop taking my allergy medicines I had been on for years

Mrs.StashMemberJust adding to the “eliminate gluten” chorus.I totally get congestion on carb nite and the morning following if I eat gluten. Totally up to me whether I do GF carb nites or just put up with the sniffles... but at least I know where it is coming from.

This seems to go right in line with long term health complications from low carb - see my post today.Reports of chronic runny nose, immune system disfunction seem related.Also, could the bloating feeling be from not having the enzymes at normal levels to process carbs due to the CNS?

If that were the case, wouldn't these 'symptoms' persist throughout the week? I feel fine on ULC days.. it's only the carbnite re-feed where my body hates me 🙂
