taylorwitmanKeymasterMy name is Taylor Witman a 6'2″ 235lbs male. I am a few weeks into training for a marathon and I have been on the paleo diet. Not so much because I believe anything processed will kill you but because the science behind it and supporters of it intrigued me to try it. I have been “paleo” for about 3 weeks now. I only have one cross train day per week where I lift which is on Sunday (through the marathon workout plan.) I was curious if you guys think carbnite would work well for me as I am looking to get down to a healthy weight and cut that body fat while training for the marathon. Thanks

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorThe first question is why are you doing the marathon? Is it a bucket list kind of thing or are you doing it for health or body comp.

taylorwitmanGuestJust being a multi-sport athlete in high school with various scholarships for football and then not being able to play after a knee injury has made me want to pursue something else. Someone challenged me to run a marathon so I figured I would try.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorWell, you could make carb night work while training for a marathon but it will likely make it harder to lose fat and keep muscle mass.I believe Kiefer talked about how he set up the diet for a marathon runner in one of the biojacked podcasts or one of the times he was on Jim Lairds show.

Brandon D ChristParticipantKiefer uses a modified version of Carb Nite for distance runners, but he hasn't been clear about it. I believe it is just the standard Carb Nite, but you carb up two nights before your race and the entire day before your race. I would possibly ask him on facebook or twitter. He might answer there, but he doesn't visit these forums anymore.I know for training he strictly uses interval training (I don't think it is HIIT though), no steady state cardio.
