atomicusMemberIn CBL, Kiefer mentions the consumption of casein pre-bed, but I've read that casein causes a significant INSULIN RESPONSE, therefore proving potentially limiting to fat burning as it raises insulin for around 7-8 hours – longer than from an equal quantity of carbs as whole proteins elevate insulin longer than weight equivalent carbohydrates because the aminos take twice as long to feed into the bloodstream. Is that true?If true, I'm wondering if it's actually such a good thing to be consuming before bed?? It is the most recommended pre-bed protein source (that and cottage cheese), due to its slow digesting properties, but if I'm looking to lean out and shift a bit of stubborn fat around my mid section (I'm around 12-14% bf), is casein the right thing to be consuming?

GnomerParticipantThere is a lot of debate on this topic..imho if your goal is weight loss id drop the casein at night.. Have some eggs and bacon or something like that instead..id avoid dairy after dinner as well…

atomicusMemberI don't have much weight to lose, just trying to get a bit tighter around the mid section really. As I say, I'm about 12-14% bf currently.

GnomerParticipantYou fasting for about 14h a day? This can be a big help

atomicusMemberYeah I'm delaying first meal until about midday. Just coffee with MCT and bit of cream before that.

You may want to drop the MCT and cream until your first meal and see if that helps

atomicusMemberThought the MCT was actually supposed to aid fat burning though?

It can but it has also been shown to halt GH effect on fat burning during a fast...no study I know shows which has a bigger influence though

GnomerParticipantfound an interesting study about MCT and fasting and keeping GH elevated.. ill let you know what i find from it

Richard SchmittModeratorMCT Oils and any form of shouldn't cause any ill effects. Unless you plan on drinking cups and cups of it

What's wrong with drinking a cup of MCT oil? that's how all the IFBB pros got shredded. 😛

atomicusMemberJokes aside, I'm rather thrown by what you're saying here. No MCT in the morning? Kiefer's 'Accelerator Shake' consisting of coffee, coconut milk and whey isolate now MINUS the coconut milk? I've actually been using a tbsp of pure MCT oil, but either way, you're saying lose that? Why exactly? I'm confused… I thought the whole point of this accelerator shake was to aid fat burning?? Ketogenesis and all that. He's wrong? 😮
