Gl;itch.eMemberHey Guys. After listening to a recent Superhuman Radio Podcast where Carl and Rob answered some listener questions relating to CBL and poor sleep quality, I got to thinking how my sleep has been over the last 2 years or so of backloading. Which has varied wildly from pretty bad to really good (currently due to some tweaks)Im very curious to get any experiences you have had and see if we can get a consensus or perhaps even find a way to improve all our sleep. Because as we all know, good quality sleep is a massive part of recovery and health. EDIT: Also itd be a good idea to make note of what kind of diet you were eating prior.

DeletedParticipantI woke up this morning for the second day in a row since starting CBL on Monday noticing that I didn't wake up during the night and that I had very vivid dreams which is supposedly indicative of REM or true restful deep sleep. Now it's too early to claim that this is the new norm, but hell it's a great start. I'll try to remember to post an update tomorrow if this continues.

How were you eating prior to trying CBL?

DeletedParticipantCKD, Very Low Carb Monday through Saturday night. Then Carb refeed Saturday night through Sunday night Approx. 24 hour refeed. Wendler 5/3/1 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Rest on Friday, Saturday, Sunday.Only ate one meal a day after training. Trained fasted. Now I have the exact same lifting and rest schedule, also still train fasted. Only water, coffee and tea all day, train at 4 pm and backload afterwards on Mon-thursday. Then VLC on Friday, Saturday and still deciding whether to backload on Sunday even though its a rest day in order to prepare for Monday's lifting, especially since the last backload prior to then would have been Thursday. What I noticed was that on CKD during the refeed I had restless sleep and felt very hot. I guess the reason was due to not training hard before taking in the carbs. So far that restless sleep hasn't happened while backloading.

GnomerParticipanti used to get cold sweats a lot when doing very heavy backloads…but overall aside from that sleep didn't change much

CBachelor17MemberI recently posted w/ Concerns about sleep. I loose sleep on BL like crazy, heavy HR and takes for ever to fall asleep. I ended up getting a sleep/recovery aid (Resurrect P.M.) and I sleep like a baby now. Only thing is you cant take it if you are not able to sleep at least 8 hours. Because waking up before that will leave you feeling like, well like sleeping haha. Odd too because on CN I fell asleep fine, but some nights I would wake up (to use the restroom) and feel like crap, but still be able to fall right back asleep.

Richard SchmittModeratorI've seen to find that I sleep great through an evening consisting both a backload and ULC night. The miss conception that everyone seems not to do is the fat intake at the last meal. I find having a fat with a carb (some protein) and a fat with a protein (minor carbs) work well for me. Plus I give myself at least 1.5-2 hours before I sleep. I take a 5mg melatonin and half a glass of 1/2tbsp natural calm.

Ive done that w/ Every Backload, Nugo Bars, Fritters, etc. I still cant sleep :-[

Richard SchmittModeratorThose Nugo Bars don't sound all that appealing and seems like you're going way too heavy right before you sleep. May even be eating too close to when you sleep. That high HR and insulin pump is because of the rise at the beginning remember it takes roughly 2 hours before it comes back down making sleep important.

CBachelor17MemberWhat do you mean by not appealing? I was just mentioning them because they have a fat content. I will say im never buying them again after slamming damn near a whole box the other night. Very well could be because too close to bed, I have actually thought of that, but theres not much I can do, thats just my schedule. Trev- Good link, GABA does help. Thats a key ingredient in Resurrect and it works great. Also I have heard the whole "no electronics before bed before." Good idea, something to try for sure.

A good little hack for nerds like me, orange tinted glasses a couple hours before bed. The color blocks out blue light.
