CainoParticipantIm guessing the reasoning behind the fatty/sugary last meal would be to create a large spike as needed to store, but not drop to quickly to create a Hypoglycemic side-effect? Really could be my problem. I always ended my CN's with Ice Cream, and sugars. Not always fat but it was always pretty sugary. And I never had trouble falling asleep. The fat in my BL will be needed anyway to make sure im at a surplus for the day. Thanks for the tip, excited to give it a shot. Wont be for a few days as Im reorienting myself though.
Yes that's the gist of it. You kinda want a smooth transition from burning carbs to burning fat. With sugars you make sure you have some liver glycogen to smooth transition into fat burning.
thanks for the advice man, i put a shit ton of himilayan rock salt on my chicken and rice, i usually follow that up with some cereal or what not, ill put this to the test, but this is the reason why i asked that on SHR blueprint power hour in regard to Berberine to drop my blood sugar level, i dunno if i wrote this earlier, but one of the worse things is lying there, and its dead quiet and you hear your own pulse beating on the side of your head against the pillow lol shit is wack!!! they say that sleep is the most important thing in anything and i think this is why im not getting the results as most others do, its been over a solid year now hoping what you have said or giving berberine a go is going to help
I don't think trying to drop blood sugar quickly is going to help. If anything eating a lot of starches is going to cause this to happen which is going to jack up your stress hormones to make up the short fall in glucose. The pulse thing almost sounds like transient hypertension/high blood pressure. Do you get much calcium/magnesium in your diet or backload? it sounds like sodium is covered, which is also magnesium sparring.
hrmm not to sure, i throw some milk in the cereal, all my ULC meals are broccoli and cauliflower rich with chilli garlic and ginger with a red or white meat also a shit load of eggs

CBachelor17MemberRight that certainly makes since. Thanks again for the tip. Caino- I know where you are coming from. The "heartbeat against the pillow" effect is one of the side-effects I experince as well. Hoping that the more sugary approach will help. I actually supplement with Magnesium and have for quite some time now. I believe its directly related to the "carb feed" period though because during ULC I sleep soundly. Looking forward to this approach thats for sure.

CBachelor17MemberSame, but sugary doesn't have to be “unclean” necessarily. Going with a locally made ice cream, donut, etc is an option. I bought a 7lb tub of dextrose that looks like it will be going to faster use. I can see myself making some whole milk, cocoa and dextrose shakes as my last meal. Throw in some whey hydro if i still need to meet my protein intake.

If you can, go with grass-fed raw milk. So delicious.

CBachelor17MemberAs far as dairy, beef, and really anything deriving from a cow. I almost always go with an organic/GF source. I'm actually currently writing a research report on why Grass-Fed products (more specifically the fat in them) are a healthier, and beneficial choice over conventional grain feeding. Pretty interesting findings I must say. But the benefits to the environment are equal to, or greater than the benefits to the human body IMO.

The deliciousness key, though, is RAW grass-fed milk. That stuff just has so much more flavor than the homogenized/pastuerized stuff. And yeah, totally with you on the sustainability/environmental stuff.. I love that the veggie/vegans are always saying that we can't sustain feeding a world population on meat and it isn't good for the environment, blah blah. It's a head scratcher how people can't see that if we stop removing PASTURES to plant fake mutant-foods that we'd have plenty of space for cows/sheep/etc, AND we'd be cutting down on environmental pollution by not having tractors constantly running, pesticides/herbicides being sprayed, diesel trucks transporting the fake foods, etc..Aaaaand.. Way off topic. Sorry. [/rant] :-[Raw milk.. yeah.. yum.. 8)

CBachelor17MemberGlitche-Ive started the BL'ing everynight. And Im having sleep issues!! Getting my 8 hours but waking up in the night and taking a while to fall asleep. Fat is certainly in the BL's to make up the macros missed during the day. Tonight Im already feeling tired though so hoping to pass out quick tonight.

Richard SchmittModeratorHave you tried lowering carb intake with those fats?

Whats your backload consist of? Whats your last meal?

CBachelor17MemberTex- why would I lower my carb intake on my backload because of fat? No I haven't.Glitche-Last three nights basically the same, Egg Whites, Waffles, Butter, Corn Chex, The Milk for the cereal the first two nights had Hydro Whey, Leucine, and Dextrose in it. Last night I replaced the Dextrose with another cup of the Cereal and Kept the Leucine and Whey Hydro. And I was able to fall asleep much faster. I did wake up twice but only because I had to pi$$ like a racehorse.

Richard SchmittModeratorI find having something heavy (by eating a bigger meal) before bed keeps me awake and alert. Depending on what I have and feeling though. But if you shift the majority of the bulk foods closer PWO, and then something lighter on the stomach might help. It's why ice cream or pastries are ideal, not as dense/heavy as the others.
October 19, 2013 at 1:28 pm #205184
CBachelor17MemberWell I have just been doing a (larger PWO shake) followed by one meal. I dont even attempt to lay down until at least two hours later. I felt like this was giving it enough time to digest, and my body to calm down. As I said though last night was a lot better, was less sugar because I took some dextrose out. But it could also just be I was freaking beat from the day, or my body is adjusting. I think thats going to be a big factor honestly. My body isnt used to the larger intake on a daily basis at all. We'll see how tonight goes. I'm only 4 Days into BL's on every training day, so my body may just need a week or so to adjust.
October 19, 2013 at 1:31 pm #205185
thestiffmeisterParticipantSleeping fantastic, especially since ditching ULC days altogether. My body hates being depleted even a little bit.
October 19, 2013 at 4:29 pm #205186
CBachelor17MemberSee I'm the complete opposite. My body functions excellent while ULC. Just can't my body I where I want it to be without taking them down. Hoping it will adjust properly
