jlbpaMemberSo the wife wants to cbl without training. Ive heard kiefer state that this will still produce favorable results of fat burning and muscle preservation. Should the load be all clean white carbs with no trash? Insight please. Thank you. She wont carbnite so dont even menton it.

maxwkwMemberIt depends where she is and what her diet is like.

Richard SchmittModeratorUhm well that's a toss up. I mean sure have carbs AT NIGHT but what are her goals? Granted fat gain will probably occur but in a controlled manner I'm sure it'll be minimal. CNS would be more a logically route, however I understand not arguing about it with your wife.

jlbpaMemberShes 5'2″ about 150, def high bf level but tight and hard underneath it all since she danced alot in her younger days and had a six pack. Im leaning towards cleaning starches. Insight?

pshannonMemberNo this will not work. Yes its healthier to eat your carbohydrates at night, but without resistance training she will not get the same benefits. The main difference between CBL and CN, stated by Kiefer himself on the Jim Laird Interview 1, is that you need to resistance train.

Ok she will not get that by doing CBL without lifting heavy. I'm sorry but it's true. CNS is leaned towards to those who don't want to lift. CBL are those who lift and want to lift to look/feel better.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorNo, it can work, it's been proven in the study that Kiefer used to create CBL, but calorie control has to be tighter make it work without training. The study showed in an isocaloric state when in a deficit people eating all their carbs at night lost more fat mass and retained more muscle then the control carbs anytime during the day group, these people ate ice cream regularly. It would likely be easier to use stuff like white rice and potatoes and save the stuff like pizza and ice cream for 1-2 times a week.

I have to disagree with this. I know what Kiefer stated with it working with tighter caloric planning, but I have to believe that this was with people with a large muscle mass than people we are speaking of. Maybe for someone that is a powerlifter, bodybuilder, or even someone on DB could get away with it but somone at a higher BF, trying to loose BF this couldnt work without a professional looking over your progress daily. I did say thats it healthier to eat them at night.

I agree, you can't do a carb orgy or anything like that, but there is simply some hormonal benefit to eating them at night.I agree you can't do CBL without training, but eating carbs at night with dinner rather then breakfast will likely result in better progress and fat loss.We are saying the same thing realistically, CBL how it is written and most of us do it, wont work for fat loss without training, but cycling macro-nutrients in a manner similar to CBL is better then a normal SAD diet.

I find it weird people keep asking this even though CBL was designed specifically around training in order to work. It's clear they when they hear about getting ripped and the actual carb back-loading part their ears perk and they are suddenly interested but still not enough to actually train and completely commit to results. Simply put, your body has to earn the right to effectively utilize the benefits of carbs. CBL works because you earn your carbs by putting your body in a state where it is now advantageous for their use. Not by just training but specifically resistance training. The key that makes CBL work is the Modulated Tissue Response theory Keifer coined. For it to work you need to take advantage of daily biological rhythms, bio molecular manipulation and the a specific window of time in which tainting should occur. Its a plan for disaster to engage this protocol without training. It's the whole spark that makes everything fall into place and work. Sorry, but despite evidence that may support some benefits of CBL without training your best option in this scenario is CNS. Not to be rude (but merely blunt), is sounds like she wants results without putting in the work and discipline required. Always remember my friend, nothing worth having comes easy and if it sounds too good to be true it always is.
