Tim Ferriss (4 hour body) says this supplement is a potent fat burner.  I have only read one study on it and I am not sure that the protocols of testing were sound.  Is this a supplement that can work with CBL and if so when should it be taken?

I run Cissus, and have been since 2009/10-ish.I use it for joint support (soft and hard tissue repair and protection).  It is f--king amazing in regards to that!  This I can attest to, and I have buddies who can, as well -- all full-contact athletes. That said, it is supposed to be a potent anti-estrogen and anti-catabolic.  I've seen supps, fat burners, that contain Cissus, but I do not know what mechanisms it destroys fat through.  My guess is by lower Estro, you boost T, by boosting T, you can burn more fat.  High T levels are associate with higher fat metabolism (which is why men have an easier time getting lean than women).I use Super Cissus RX.  I buy in bulk @ Nutra Planet.  $20 for 100 grams, which lasts 3 months for one person.Cory

I've been on Cissus Quad for a about a year, after reading the 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss; however, I was unable to really find any conclusive research on CQ.I would have to agree with Cory that it does work really good for connective tissue and inflammation.  I would compare it to curcumin.  In fact, the anti-inflammatory is probably the mechanism of fat loss, since muscle damage and inflammation have shown to cause lipogenic properties.  But then...just self experimenting here.

I normally did about 5g of the stuff, but up to 15g, depending on what I can mix it with…actually, I think coffee tastes the best, but also your protein shake could be an option too.  It has a very bitter aftertaste and it's not the best.

    dosage?

I dose 1/4 tsp of the raw grinded powder, per night, empty stomach, before bed.  That is roughly 1.1 grams of powder.  I take it with my GABA and ZMA's, to give you a sense of timing.I use the super-concentrated, high-potency Super Cissux RX.  There are other brands, w/ lower potencies available.  In my research, the Super Cissux RX is the best deal (powder, 100g @ NutraPlanet).Cory

As for taste, the Super Cissus RX tastes fine.  Hard to explain.  A little “creamy” undertone, if you will.  Not pleasant or gross creamy, just, well, creamy-ish.  There isn't even cream in the ingredients, just Cissus… so, must be the plant. The brand I use looks like cigarette ash, but I've used other brands where the powder looks like grinded terracotta clay (raw).  I've also tasted other brands, lower potency, that taste like a bitter Nestea.Never had a brand that is so foul I felt like vomiting or the need to cap, though.Cory
