Hey guys! I have a few quick questions. working ouut, how late for carb nite, why not eat in morning.I try to do searches, but it never seems to answer my questions I am looking for!1)  Why are you supposed to fast in the morning? What if I dont lift weights like the rest of you? Am I still supposed to fast? I am looking to do HIIT on Sunday, T, and Th..and weights M, W, F (Carb Nite is Saturday).  I am just a casual weight lifter, I am not looking to win any fitness shows! 😉  So I am confused on the fasting part of it.2) I tend to go to bed early and read in the book your carb nite can start at noon if you want it to and it should be 6-8 hours.  My first carb nite went from 12-8...but I gained 4 pounds! :-  Should I maybe just do it from 4-8?3)Are you allowed juice on Carb nite? I really want a Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider..but it is made with apple juice...so I dont want to screw anything up by drinking juice?4) Alcohol-  What is the recommended alcohol to drink on Carb nite? I know you aren' SUPPOSED to drink alcohol...but come on! its football season people!!  ;DThanks for the help in advance, Julie

Hello and welcome!1) When you wake up in the morning your body is in a fat burning state. Hormones such as Growth hormone and cortisol levels are high. Both of these hormones break down fat. They stay elevated for about 2-3 hours after you wake. If you eat carbs in the morning you'll increase insulin. Insulin causes cells to grow (fat and muscle).2) Carb nite should be kept to between 4-6 hours. When I done CNS I done mine from roughly 6pm to 10 or 11.3) Limit fruit juice due to the fructose content in it. Your body can only store a small amount of fructose in your liver. Once the liver is full, fructose is very easily stored as fat.4) Some people enjoy 2-3 light beers on their carb nite.

Hey guys! I have a few quick questions. working ouut, how late for carb nite, why not eat in morning.I try to do searches, but it never seems to answer my questions I am looking for!1)  Why are you supposed to fast in the morning? - so your body can continue burning fat as it does at nightWhat if I dont lift weights like the rest of you? - that's okay for CNSAm I still supposed to fast? - YesI am looking to do HIIT on Sunday, T, and Th..and weights M, W, F (Carb Nite is Saturday). - Sounds good I am just a casual weight lifter, I am not looking to win any fitness shows! 😉  - dont worry 🙂So I am confused on the fasting part of it.2) I tend to go to bed early and read in the book your carb nite can start at noon if you want it to and it should be 6-8 hours.  My first carb nite went from 12-8...but I gained 4 pounds! :-  Should I maybe just do it from 4-8?- Don't worry about weight you put on after carb night, it's not fat. Ooo, I have a question. Is it okay if I only have a 2 hr carb night, considering that I'm having one every 5-6 days?I just don't like feeling sick and stuffed. I only enjoy the first hour or so

It depends how lean you were. When I was doing carb nite before my vacation I was hovering around the 10% bodyfat mark, probably a touch lower. I was doing carb nite every 5th night BUT I believe you still have to eat the huge number of carbs. The less fat you have the less leptin there is to be released (leptin is the main hormone spiked curing carb nite) So  the leaner you are the more carbs you have to eat, more often to get leptin levels as high as possible and accelerate your fat loss.

I am looking to do HIIT on Sunday, T, and Th..and weights M, W, F (Carb Nite is Saturday).  I am just a casual weight lifter, I am not looking to win any fitness shows! 😉  So I am confused on the fasting part of it. The fasting in the morning helps keep you in the ketogenic state. By having say MCTs or coconut oil, it helps prolong that to keep the fat burning engine running. Try to keep your HIIT times between 15-20 minutes since you're doing so 3x a week. Not going say that you shouldn't do that much but 2x a week is a good place to start, and when you start to stall take one day out or add another day. Have fun with it like you mentioned about casual lifting. I'm out for personal performance as well, not a fitness show or strength meet.2) I tend to go to bed early and read in the book your carb nite can start at noon if you want it to and it should be 6-8 hours.  My first carb nite went from 12-8...but I gained 4 pounds! :-  Should I maybe just do it from 4-8? I would start around 5pm, and keep it for 4-6 hours. That's just me, but when doing a CN you'll have to instill some discipline. Meaning have two low fat carb/protein meals and then the final meal can be a dessert. Once you kinda get things under control, then try to change up meals around where you can have that pizza or what ever your heart desires.3)Are you allowed juice on Carb nite? I really want a Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider..but it is made with apple juice...so I dont want to screw anything up by drinking juice? I would have a small one, but don't make it a staple or have a couple of them. One shouldn't be too bad. 4) Alcohol-  What is the recommended alcohol to drink on Carb nite? I know you aren' SUPPOSED to drink alcohol...but come on! its football season people!!  ;DGO COWBOYS!! But once a month wouldn't hurt on a CN.Thanks for the help in advance, Julie

Hey Fairy, your question gets answered pretty well in the mentioned forum (not yet worked out how to put the link in with my new app, sorry) basically, you need to go for more than 2 hours, look at around 6!SHORTEST EFFECT CARB NITE, in CN discussion
