mczx1MemberHe was referring to Rocky Patel. I believe I heard Kiefer say dirty Carb Nite is fine. Starting off with a potato is NOT going to get the insulin spike needed.

russet baked potato is one of the highest GI foods you can eat so why not?higher than pure glucose according to this charthttp://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Glycemic_index_and_glycemic_load_for_100_foods.htm

CBachelor17Member^+1 a baked (or very well cooked) potato is very high glycemic. Esp if your not loading it down with butter, sour cream, or cheese. Keifer actually mentions them in one of his videos. Talks about cooking the sh*t out of em because the more cooked they are the more glycemic they become.

mczx1Member[russet baked potato is one of the highest GI foods you can eat so why not?Yes, he said it and I am sorry I cannot remember where or when to point you to it. I will, if I find it again. Trust me, I seek out every word he says in print, video or podcast. He said something like "eating a potato or rice is going to react slowly, like a gentle ramp up that lingers too long, we want something to slam the insulin spike up quickly".Sounds like someone needs to do a test? Blood sugar fasted: baseline then every 15 minutes after plain baked potato and the next day, fasted blood sugar: baseline then every 15 minutes after donuts, or licorice or something low fat high glycemic. One initial thought on this is GI index vs. GI load. Too much fiber = slower digestion. This is why fruit can at times be thought as "blood sugar safe" vs. say candy or fruit juice. Some fruit can be high on the index but LOW on the actual load, due to it's water and fiber content. For example, carrots are listed as high GI index, but they used a massive amount of carrots or juice to get that number.I would guess a cherry turnover or licorice is going to spike quicker and higher than a fibrous potato. Not looking for a fight here, just trying to pin Kiefer down on some of these important points. So far the one complaint I have with him is exactly this. Conflicting or semi-conflicting statements left unanswered. Quick example, Carb Nite is ok with olive oil, but then I hear him say "it's nearly impossible to get out of fat cells" So which is it? Never use it, use 1.oz a day, use it like water?

CBachelor17MemberAll the fat stuff is individual. And even though it may be “impossible” to get out of fat cells. If your using it on CN it shouldn't be store into fat cells if your doing things properly. It should be used as energy. As far as your carb example i don't remember him saying that ever. He now advocates using potatoes and rice rather than junk food for longevity. If you over-bake or just bake a russet and don't load it up with fats, and don't eat a shit load of protein with it. Its going to be just as effective as anything else. With exceptions being pure Glucose (Dextrose) or sugar. That turnover is loaded with fat which theoretically would slow the rate of digestion of the sugar just as much as a loaded baked potato. You will get a significant blood glucose and blood sugar rise from a baked potato is my only point. Same thing with white rice (or sushi). Esp the rolls that don't have fats like cream cheese, fatty fish, etc. And so long as your not throwing a stick of butter on your white rice.

Robert RiveraParticipantWhat about doing my first two meals of my CarbNite with Organic Rice Dextrose? How many carbs should I aim for per "shake"?

The amount of carbs doesn't matter. But to get a good response from insulin i would go 20+You could certainly use that though.

Scope75Guest30g corn syrup is what I've been using for the first 2-3 spikes on a CN. Doing that gets me the spikes needed but leaves my stomach empty so I'm able to enjoy my meals and fatty treats at the end of the night and not feel stuffed.

Certainly makes since. Dont want to start another kcal rant but it also helps keep that lower. Whole pizza(s) and ice cream to end a CN and start with a few hundred kcal shakes/shots hah

Scope75GuestYep….Had 1200 cal worth of ice cream to end the night and that's like 80g fat 120g carbs it I also at it on top of fat free waffles so the carb count ended up being closer to 220-250. Fell asleep and woke up with time left for my CN so I smashed a box of marshmallows pebbles cereal and crashed back out. 1000-1200g carbs and 10lbs gained.

Yea i was up 11lbs from my CN last night. Woke up only like 5 up though hah. I started with 3 small bananas & dried fruit. Then throughout the night I ate 3 6:1 ratio bars, 18 pieces of sushi, 2 cups of pudding, some imported cookies i got from Saraga, 6 steamed potstickers, a big piece of dutch apple goodie, a bunch of cereal. I pretty much been slamming my CNs to make sure I'm not loosing weight while I'm down haha. Hasn't made me gain an ounce and i look fine when i wake in the morning. Kinda hard to see any changes through all the swelling from surgery though.
