elmatth1MemberFirst off, I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for all the help and advice given out to others in the past. I usually just search through old threads when i have questions and can easily find the answers I'm looking for because of the advice given out in the past. That has helped me out tremendously. With that being said, here's a brief rundown of what I've done so far, then I'll get to my question.I started CBL toward the end of last year. I found out about it on another forum and then saw an article written by Kiefer in Flex magazine, so i bought the e-book and decided to give it a shot. Well, a couple months into it I saw a photo of myself on vacation and suddenly realized that while I thought my arms and chest were kinda "big" because of my muscle mass, I was really just a fat a$$. I guess the extra fat kinda creeped up on me and while i knew i had some body fat to lose, i didn't realize i was as fat as i was. So, I ordered the carb-nite book that day and immediately started on loosing the fat. From January to July I went from 235lbs at 6'01" with probably 30% body fat (just a guess on my bf%) to 194lbs. For two months i was stuck there and decided to do back to back CN's for a month before switching to CBL SA. I have been doing 3-4 days a week heavy workouts the entire time, but my muscles always looked flat and I didn't see much gain in muscle mass during CN.Since switching to CBL my muscles appear much fuller and my strength is starting to increase again. So, here's my question. I am now weighing around 205-206lbs, but my clothes fit the same and I actually think I'm starting to lean out in my midsection. Is it possible that I can increase 10-11lbs in body weight in a month and 1/2 or so after switching to CBL and have it not be fat gain? Am i just fooling myself into thinking I'm not gaining fat again?Sorry for the lengthy post, just thought a bit of history on me would help in giving advice.

samuel r walkerParticipantYes its typical to gain weight switching over, and its not fat. After being carb depleted on CNS you have accumulated glycogen stores from backloads which is causing some water retention; this is normal. That being said, it is possible to gain fat from glycogen spill over if your backloading with too many carbs

elmatth1MemberThanks, Sammy. I've actually been keeping my carbs to only 200-300 grams on my backload nights, the night before before my workouts, as I workout in the AM. I figured some of that weight gain was water weight, but didn't know if it could be as high as 10-11lbs. That's great! (Sarcasm implied) That means that I lost a lot less fat on CN than I had previously thought. >:(

I started on CBL and followed it for 2 years before switching to CNS...did that for a month, went on vacation, and came back to follow it the past 2 months. How did you transition from CNS to CBL? waited until your next CarbNite than switched to CBL?

elmatth1MemberWhen I transitioned, I added a second, smaller, carb nite for a few weeks before going into CBL. Not sure if that is the best way, but I didn't want to just start right into CBL without giving my body a chance to get more accustomed to the additional carbs. I just had two carb nites back to back, but others here suggest seperating them by a few days.

Did you make them 2 smaller carbnites?
October 3, 2013 at 10:27 pm #204730
elmatth1MemberThe second one was smaller, I did the first like normal. Who knows if that is the best way or not. I'm pretty sure Keifer hasn't weighed in on this topic at all. If he has, I must have missed it. Not sure how the guys (and girls) who do two carb nites a few days apart configure theirs. If I did it that way, I would probably go with two smaller carb nites. More like backloads. Of course, take that with a grain of salt, because that is purely my opinion and not based on anything Kiefer has said.

+1It may be some fat, but providing you're keeping glycogen levels elevated, there will be a lot of water associated with that.

Do you look better, and feel better about how you look? Then who gives a shit about the numbers?

elmatth1MemberTCB, i agree with your last point. The problem is that it's hard to judge without being able to measure my body fat %. I'm wearing pants that are now 2 sizes too big, and my belts are on their last notch. I haven't bought new clothes yet because I wanted to wait until I'm at my goal. So, it's hard to judge just how the extra 10lbs looks on me. I feel good and it actually feels like I'm still getting leaner, but I've fooled myself before and want to make sure I'm not doing it again.I'll continue on with CBL SA for a few months and evaluate my progress then. If I find I'm gaining too muxh fat by then, I'll either cut gack on my carbs or just go back on CN.

CBachelor17MemberI would start measuring, and dump the scale. Measure arms at the “belly” of your biceps, your mid-thigh, navel, waist, and hips. Doing so every 1-2 weeks will give you a very accurate account of where the weight is going. This is what was recommended to me by the Head of Kinesiology, and Head of Exercise Science at OSU. I have been doing so ever since. While admittedly i still weight myself, I do so to track water retention and comparing measurements based off weight I can estimate how much is probably lean, and how much is water.

elmatth1MemberCBachelor, that is an excellent idea. I've thought about doing that in the past, but every time i'm at the store I forget to pick one up. I guess I should just write it down when I get home so I don't forget, but then I'll just forget to write it down when I get home. lol

CBachelor17MemberThanks,Use the "www" and order one up! 🙂
