I have been on CNS for 11 months and lost 75lbs. Down to 195. I have not worked out in a decade. I have a great set of Dumbbells and have searched out some routines that I want to begin That are 3x a week. Will I need a post workout shake? If so what should be in it?
Male. 5’8″. 195 lbs. Sedentary job. I go for a 30 minutes walk at lunch most days. Any help or direction

This is what my husband does… Stronglifts 5*5 and then after the workout you wait one hour, no food only water, then a whey isolate shake (zero carb isopure), 5g creatine (we take the 5g creatine everyday no matter if it’s a lift day or not), 5g leucine (or CarbShock if we have some)… the leucine takes a while getting used to so we just dump the powder in the back of our throats and chug water to down it, then drink the shake. I would only drink the shakes on the nights/days you lift. If you don’t feel like you did anything after that workout, then you should be going heavier, but you don’t have to kill yourself either. Good luck!

What does the routine look like? I’d say no to the PWO Shake if you’re just using dumbbells.

Just keep going. You can do it. I have not taken any breaks. I am used to this way of eating now. I would still like to lose another 20. but if I can get stronger and look leaner then I wont care what weight I am. Good luck to you.

Well that’s every bit of awesome! Congrats on such an awesome and successful journey on Carb Nite!

If you can, try and detail out your dumbbell routine a bit more, like how many set/reps at what weight, and how they feel to you. (Easy, doable, heavy, very difficult to complete.) Also how long a typical session will run you, and how long your rest times are in-between.

If you’re lifting for 45 minutes or more and really feel like you’ve put in a lot of work with some heavy weights, then yeah, I would drink a ultra low carb PWO shake about an hour later with creatine and leucine. However, if it was 20-30 minutes of moderately easy work sets then I would say just eat some food later if you’re hungry. I wouldn’t mess with a PWO shake.
