I am curious if there are any veagans, vegetarians or pescatarians currently using the Carb-Nite Solution?I am not against using why protein just because it makes the diet simple. My concern is if it is okay every now and then to use tofu. I know soy is not my best option on this diet, but there are things that I enjoy that contain soy. We seriously need a veggie lovers section. Just saying.  😉

If you have soy, Make it fermented, that's your best bet for including soy.Your best bet for the diet to work is don't eat soy.

I am a pescatarian, and although I also like tofu and would like to add it in, I have avoided it.  I have been debating on making a tofu dish at least once a week.  Love making tofu scramble and BBQ tofu steaks.  It is a fairly low carb option and I think as long as soy isn't the majority of your diet once in a while shouldn't be bad.  I will have to look into some of the podcasts to see what he recommends.

As for soy, I don't use it… not even fermented. My primary protein sources are eggs, cheeses and occassional powders (pea protein during ULC, whey isolate post-workout).I've spent my entire lifting life as a vegetarian, and I've been bodybuilding for 3 years (my avatar picture is me).  Never had one issue gaining mass equal to those who eat meat.  That said, I take my diet and supps VERY seriously, and read all the research I can find.Cory

It is great having you fellow forum users chime in on this particular topic. I have refrained from using any soy for a while, because I suppose I am just scared of it. Haha! I struggle with getting in my protein; therefore, I have still relied on the use of whey protein, particularly the DH blends. I pretty much have to force myself to eat eggs, but not because they gross me out. I just never crave eggs anymore. abbeball, the BBQ tofu you mentioned seems amazing! I greatly appreciate the feeback from you all. Thanks!

I don't see that happening anytime soon ;DAs everyone else said, I would avoid soy. If you absolutely need/crave it from time to time, go with tempeh over tofu.

Definitely tempeh over tofu, IF YOU MUST.  I strongly recommend that you stick to eggs and cheeses, as a veg, w/ the occassional protein powder.  More specifically plant protein powders (like pea) during ULC, saving whey isolates for post-workout.  This is due to the inherent insulin spike in whey (and most dairy-based powders), which are not so pronounced in plant-based powders.  We are trying to minimize insulin spikes in ULC phases of CNS and CBL.If you do consume soy, of any kind, please be aware of the phyto-estrogens you are ingesting.  While they are not harmful like xeno-estrogens, ingesting any estrogens (especially in our f-cked industrial environment) is not preferable for male or female! You may consider taking an studied estrogen metabolizer, like DIM.  Go with .3g per lb. of lean bodyweight per day (for DIM).  Stay away from Indole-3-Carbinol, as some studies cause health worry.Go with a product that contains JUST DIM.If you have issues with trouble-fat, known to be estro-controlled, like around the chest, nipples, triceps, thighs and glutes, you may consider a potent anti-estrogen like "Erase":http://www.nutraplanet.com/product/pesupplments/erase-90-caps.htmlIn fact, stacking DIM w/ Erase (or a product w/ the same Andro compound as Erase), would be VERY effective.  You'd, essentially, metabolize AND destroy. That said, I would stay on an anti-estrogen longer than you need to for results, b/c men (and women) DO need estrogen for hormonal balance, and proper health.Cory

For some reason, I never thought of pea protein for ULC (since all things plant based are considered evil around here ;)).Read up on it a little bit today and seems like many suggest to combine pea and rice protein for even better amino acid profile. What are your thoughts, Cory? Check out the bottom of the page.. http://www.nutribodyprotein.com/protein-types.phpYou would still add coconut oil for the 1:1 fat - protein ratio, right?I have been having problems with acne lately and didn't even think it might be the whey powder (blamed it on the New York summer heat instead).

Acne could be due to a rise in testosterone, which is due to the higher fat intake.  That is normal.  You should notice an increase in strength, too.Might check with your doctor, which is a healthy habit, and just get a general look-over.Never thought about stacking Pea with Rice.  Pea is excellent b/c it is highly bioavailable (like whey), high in the BCAAs and Arginine, and non-allergenic.  That is why I chose Pea.Yes, keep your fat - protein ratios in check.  Add coconut oil or heavy cream, for instance.  I tend to add the latter.Cory

CoryMcC, is there a particular DIM supplement you would recommend? Any particular brand?

    #64626

This DIM product looks solid, it is 100% DIM, no added ingredients or proprietary blends.http://www.swansonvitamins.com/OL015/ItemDetailIt is 100mg per cap, which is a fine dosage (per day) for any guy up to 333.3 lbs. of lean weight!  The dosage in studies was .3mg per pound of lean bodyweight, per day. However, if you want SUPER powerful, all-in-one, look at a supp like this:http://www.nutraplanet.com/product/man/nolvadren-xt-56-capsules.htmlIt contains both Andro and DIM, plus DHEA metabolites.  This will effectively metabolize and destroy Estro.Cory

Yes, that's exactly what I read. Adding rice protein supposedly helps even further... rice protein is high in cysteine and methionine, but low in lysine. Yellow pea protein is low in cysteine and methionine, but high in lysine. In case I missed it, what brand do you use? How does it taste and mix?I found this one, but it's expensive... http://www.baselinenutritionals.com/products/nutribody-protein.phpThanks, Cory..

Just out of curiosity, what is the difference between Erase and Nolvadren?

Just out of curiosity, what is the difference between Erase and Nolvadren?

I use Now Foods' Sport line Pea Protein product.  Best deal:  http://www.swansonvitamins.com/NWF264/ItemDetailIf you Google for it, you can usually get some good coupon codes for Swanson Vitamins.  I typically get 10% every order, sometimes w/ free shipping.  Recently got both using coupon code "PARENT", not sure if it is still active.  Did this a day ago.Nolvadren contains the Andro compound found in Erase, it also contains DIM in proper dosage.  Nolvadren is, therefore, a more comprehensive product.  Erase just contains the Andro compound.Cory
