NaturalKiKeymasterIs it safe to eat coconut meat for ULC days? I was thinking it might make a nice dessert or something.100g has about 33 grams fat, 15g carbs, 3g protein. Would it be possible to eat that all at once and still be ULC?http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3106/2

Richard SchmittModeratorDon't eat more than 10g of usable carbs in one sitting. Fat and Protein grams don't matter in large quanities if you can tolerate that amount. It'll be fine. Why not save it to mix with a dessert on a CN? or Backload?

EMS218GuestI'm not sure about the fiber in the meat, but I know coconut flour and coconut manna (butter) both have very high fiber, so the usable carbs are really low. If that is the case, I don't see a problem with you eating it for as a source of really healthy fats. If the fiber isn't high enough, try the coconut manna-it's delicious and a spoonful might help you curb a sweet tooth! 🙂

Robert GrayParticipantUnsweetened coconut flakes at my local health food store (can't remember the brand name) are 4g of carbs for every 4 tablespoon serving, 2g of which are fiber. I haven't used them for anything besides Rice Krispies treats on my carb nites yet, but I've considered throwing them in with some beef and coconut oil to do an ULC Thai-style stir fry.

A market near my work sells raw coconut water with pulp in it. One bottle is 12g carbs so I drink 1/2 a bottle every other day or so to mix it up a bit. Funny how after almost 2 months on CNS a mid-week swig of that stuff is as satisfying as dark chocolate used to be.

NaturalKiGuestOk, thanks for the tips! I've been trying to eat more local and less processed foods, and coconut is pretty easily available where I live, so I was looking for a way to take advantage of that.Based on your advice, I think I'll just use half a cup or so as a ULC snack or dessert, as an alternative to the peanuts and pork rinds I've been eating.I'm still at 15-20%BF, is it safe to add saturated fat like coconut to my backloads?

Richard SchmittModeratorYes toward the end is fine actually! If you have coconut products, by all means use them
