Tyler StephensParticipantSo, I've been browsing this board lately and heard that polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats can bad for aesthetics?I would just like someone to shed me some knowledge on the subject of fat.Like for carbs, fructose = bad and glucose = good. It's not as clear in my eyes when talking about fat.

PhattyMemberMy memory is a little fuzzy on this, but I think it goes something like this.Saturated fat is the most readily available for energy and it doesn't alter the balance of your omega 3/6 ratio. Monounsaturated fat is the most easily stored as body fat and the hardest to empty out of your fat cells. Polyunsaturated is best sourced from oily fish for omeaga 3s.

atomicusMemberNot that you should avoid monos or polys, they should just be used more sparingly. Coconut oil, MCT, butter, a good omega 3 supplement and fat from good quality meat is best. Not sure if there's a recommended % breakdown though, i.e how much of what during the day.

Richard SchmittModeratorThere really isn't anything confusing about it. If you what you say is true about looking among the forums, you would have seen the Athlete.io article about fats, also plenty other fat articles on the site. Even folks use coconut oil, coconut milk, MCT Oil, butter, and meat fats.

There could be more articles and BioJacked episodes that touch on this subject, but I did not dig through them all.

Tyler StephensParticipantThanks a lot.So whats the deal with coconut oil vs. MCT Oil.Right now I use Raw Cold Pressed extra virgin Coconut Oil for my coffees and pre-workout shakes.Should I switch to MCT Oil? Also, is it okay to have MCT fats with your first meal of the backload or should all fats be avoided. I was just wondering because coconut oil is really good with sweet potatoes.Lastly, how much oil should I take with my coffee and pre-workout.I usually take 3/4 TBSP of Coconut Oil with my coffee which equates to 10.5 grams of fat and I take 1.5 TBSP for my ignition formula which is around 21 grams of fat. Should I use less? Especially at my 145 pound stature. I'm doing density bulking fyi.

Coconut oil is made up of 60% MCT. It's cheaper than straight MCT oil and it's great to cook with. I'm not 100% on this, but I believe MCT oil ingested with carbs may help to spike your insulin levels. So having it in your backload might be beneficial.

Tyler StephensParticipantCan anyone else validate sweet potatoes + coconut oil as a first backload meal even though it contains fats? Also, how much coconut oil/mct oil should I take for the AM Accelerator and Ignition Formula? In the books it says 1 TBSP and 2 TBSP respectively. That's comes up as around 13 grams and 26 grams.I believe I should be taking less.Anyone?

Just do 1 tbsp or so for the shakes.Sweet potatoes and coconut oil are fine, but for the record white potatoes work better then sweets.

Tyler StephensParticipantI just switch off. I like to keep my foods I'm eating somewhat varied.
July 7, 2013 at 11:19 pm #189991
Tyler StephensParticipantAlso would you replace coconut oil with MCT Oil for pre-workout?
July 7, 2013 at 11:22 pm #189992
Mr. GMemberMCT oil is much better than coconut oil. When I need a little flavor like coffee I use the Coc Oil, All other times use MCT oil.
