ReisParticipantGreetings:Well I survived my first Carb Nite, but wow what a wake up call that was...I definitely didn't feel too great after downing cookies, pizza & ice cream (go figure). Looks like next time maybe I'll maul some sushi with extra rice instead of the pizza. Seems I have plenty of fine-tuning in my future. Either way, onto the point of my post.My workout today felt great. Now as the subject says I do Crossfit...I know, I know, the REAL C-word, according to Kiefer anyway. Fact is I've been doing it for two years and I love it, so that's that. I know CF workouts accelerate glycogen depletion, and I'm interested to see what a few months on CNS will do for my body while maintaining a CF regimen 3x (avg) a week. I was 335# when I started CF and now I'm at 295# with some decent re-comp from some bouts of Paleo sprinkled across those two years. Looking to blow through a weight/fat loss plateau I've hit over the past six months.Seems based on Kiefer's video about doing HIIT the day after carb nite, I probably did myself well with today's workout:Back Squats @ 275 10-10-8 (heavy for me...stop laughing)3 Rounds (2 minutes rest between) - 8 Power Cleans @ 135 + 1:30 max rowI have to say I haven't felt this good after a workout since I started CNS. Workouts during days 5-10 were tough, likely due to ULC. So I'm curious...if I like to do CF at least 3 days a week, with one of those days being the day after carb nite, am I really at a huge disadvantage if I load my workouts toward the first half of the 7 days?

Brandon D ChristParticipantFat loss will occur for anybody if they correctly follow Carb Nite. However if you are concerned about stength or maintaing muscle mass, your choice of exercise isn't the greatest no matter where you put it. Just don't push yourself too hard.

AmandinhabrasilGuestHi Reis - Im not an expert but I love fitness. I have been on this journey of finding a diet that I love and exercise routine that I can easily follow. All I can say is that CNS and crossfit are my favorites!!I have energy to exercise very intense for almost an hour, non-stop. But I have been eating a lot of fat and protein. I know we are instructed to follow the amounts of fat and protein for great results but I just focus on eating less than 30g of carbs a day and listen to my body when it says FEED ME. I give it fat first then protein and it seems like its working.I can't say that I feel great every day (I get a bit irritated when Im in ketosis, not sure why) but it goes away.Listen to our coach and listen to your body. If you feel like doing cross fit, DO IT! And see how you feel 🙂Experimentation is everything, especially in fitness. Have fun!! :):)

hype8912GuestThe last time I experimented with a CNS type diet I was very drained and depleted when my carb nite was on the 10th day. If I was going to try it again I would have my carb nite on the 7th day or every Sunday. I typically do CrossFit 5 days a week (M-F) with Thursday being an active rest day and twice on Friday. Currently I am doing CBL but I am looking to trim up more and to get over a plateau I've been at for a few months. I'm sitting at 250# and would like to drop down into the 220s range.

It may be beneficial for you and the OP to have a Carb Nite every 4 days.

Jumping right away into that frequency might be a bit much, but I'll tinker with that after the first month or so. I'll probably see how a week looks/feels, then 6 days, and keep tightening the window between carb nites to see how it goes. Maybe I'll judge based on the intensity of the workouts in a particular week. Despite the common perceptions of Crossfit, full-blast heavy metcons aren't a daily occurrence.

My strength is really the only thing I'm satisfied with right now. I'd give up 20% of my squats and deadlift if I could shed enough fat to be able to blow through pull-ups, dips, toes to bar etc without assistance bands. With bodyweight being my main limiter, my goals right now revolve around fat loss. If my max deadlift goes from 450 to 375 I'm losing zero sleep if it means I have far less of my body getting in the way during workouts. Thanks for the perspective...everyone is very helpful here.

I was speaking from a purely performance perspective. If fat loss is really your goal, I would stick to one Carb Nite a week and cut volume if you are struggling through your workouts.
