filippelli74ParticipantOk so as some of you know I am new to CBL. I am trying to bulk up a bit but with limited fat gains (aren't we all?) So I was looking at the Delta Chart and I am a bit confused/shocked. When I started my 10 days of low carbs I weighed in around 192 and when I was done I was around 182. So when looking at the chart it says I should be at 909 . Is that per day? I currently weigh 186 @ 5'11 I think I am around 12% bf

Richard SchmittModeratorThat number would be the max to try and have the first night you backloads. The weight based chart is max amount you should try to get on any other given day. You'll have to figure what works best for you.

filippelli74ParticipantOk, now is that the first day of carb loading after my 10 day prep day or the first day of CBL each week? When I look further is says I should average 600+ grams a day , I have been trying to hit 400 but I have gained a little body fat . I have also been loading every day though. This weekend I am experimenting , Sunday is my off day and I hit legs hard on saturday. I kept carbs to around 100 grams last night and I wasn't planning on loading at all today. I will be hitting upper body pretty hard tomorrow . My dilemma is trying to just gain lean weight, I feel like I am gaining body fat more then muscle. I am just way off the mark or does it make scenes to cut back on these two days?

thrownullpointerMemberDid you read the book?

I think some weight gain is going to happen with back-loading every night. I would back load much less often if you want to avoid putting on more fat. Also the carb limits are the absolute upper threshold. The people that can eat at that limit are already jacked. The less jacked you are the less muscle glycogen you have and the less muscle glycogen there is to replace. So if you bf % is decently high you shouldn't be eating close to the upper threshold.

filippelli74ParticipantThanks Thrown, yes I did read it but I guess I either missed some of it or just not getting it. I decided after reading some more that I needed to load last night since I am going to be lifting tonight. I realized that Sat night i should not have loaded. Last night I hit around 350 grams. Feel good today so far. Tonight I will aim for 450 and will check how I feel tomorrow.

I don't think you missed anything or you're not getting it.The fact is CBL is an extremely finnicky diet. Kiefer hand tailors it to each of his clients. What he's given us is a bunch of puzzle pieces. You need to put them all together. If you take all of the pieces out of the box you still don't have the whole picture. You'll keep adjusting and adjusting. I haven't seen anyone get immediate results with this diet. The best results come from those who have tailored it to themselves as Kiefer has done for his clients.

filippelli74ParticipantWell that makes me feel better. My friend yesterday pointed out that since I am on a MD program that a bit of fat will be normal. So I will hit it hard for 6 months and then see where I am at. Thanks again.

RoadblockParticipantJust remember to give a few days to 1 week adjustment period for any tweaking you do. If you up your carbs on CBL nights then do it for a week and gage results. Then if it doesn't work dial it down and go another week. Be consistant when you change too. If you up the carbs, then up the carbs for every CBL meal for the week. You need to make sure that you get good data over a good period of time to see if something is working or not. Remember too that upping carbs will also up water retention, even if it is only short term, because every carb molecule will have 3 water molecules attached to it.RB

filippelli74ParticipantThanks, I tried to keep it around 400-450 grams a day this week. What I noticed was that I got fat! My suit pants don't fit well anymore , my abs are not showing as well and I have way more fat around my chest. My wife says I look bigger but I wonder how much of that is the fat or water in the my muscles . I am not sure if it is actual lean muscle mass gains. I think this week I am going to keep it at 200 grams a day to see the effect. I am wondering if I am just really carb sensitive. I really want to get bigger but if it means gaining a bunch of fat to get to the weight that I was pre CBL then I am out. Before I was 192 ish and pretty lean . Now I am 186 and fatter. So confused . If this doesn't work I might reset with a 5 day ULC and try it again. The only thing I have liked so far is my energy level is far more stable then eating 6 times a day like I did prior to this plan.
