CBachelor17MemberOk so upon searching the threads I only found one short conversation regarding this. But in attempts to lower my sugar intake on my backloads, I'm considering my next Dextrose Blend to be created with Organic Rice Dextrose rather than Normal. I know that it is much less sweet, and has much less sugar content. But I'm wondering what the difference is going to be as far as getting a Insulin response, and what the body will actually take it as? Does anyone have any experience using Rice Dextrose?

In what way? Im the complete opposite. I totally believe that if fat gain is something you want to avoid that sugars are miles better than starches for carb source.

ive tried high sugar(in many forms).. gives me upset stomach.. feel tired and just overall crappy even the next morning I feel lethargic.. but if I pound bowls on jasmine rice I have no issues at allalso adding in sugars for me induces cravings for sugary foods during the day.. once I cut those out i lost all the cravings

Were you backloading at the time? I dont see how sugar could upset your stomach. Its got to be the simplest to digest food known to man. Maybe if you had problems with gut bacteria I could see how it would occur, but then starches would give the same results if not much worse since they generally carry more fibre that are food for bacteria. Not to mention acting as anti-nutrients by binding to a lot of minerals and vitamins.Cravings are an interesting one. IMO a craving for sugar could very well mean you are not metabolically flexible enough to switch to fats for energy or are unable to store enough glycogen/release glycogen in sufficient quantities to keep blood glucose levels steady.

CBachelor17MemberTrying to lower sugar for several reasons. 1- Its suggested by Keifer (in not so many words) to control sugar intake on Backloads if your <10% and want to get lower. 2. The next day i have a "Hangover" type feeling, with a taste/feeling in my mouth all day that I dont get with lower sugar.Ill still be eating some sugars, but instead of ice cream ill go with a Fritter, with High GI sugars and starches, instead of just pure sugar. Just cutting it back a little. So does anyone know about rice dextrose? Im not going to go with it if its considered a slower carb like Waxy Maze or something. I just know little about it so I want to get some info before i make the purchase.

yes i was doing CBL with 4 or so backloads a week...just another reason you can never assume a carb is a carb.. people react so differently to different things.. i will agree it's possible on the not being metabolically flexible which is why i put together a new eating plan which revolves mainly around staying with high fats, moderate protein, low carbs pretty much all the time.. only thing about that though that is odd i have no issues when i go ULC even for a week at a time even if I just did weeks of backloads so i have no clue honestly..so it could be the glycogen issues... who knows.. but I feel it's time for a change for me which I'm starting next week...also speaking of dextrose at any more than 20g it tears me apart.. i know this happens to a lot of people.. but then some can handle 100g+ in one sitting no problem

GnomerParticipantchemically they are the exact same so pick what you want.. rice is extracted from rice starch regular dextrose usually from corn.. in the past I've had more luck with rice products than corn ones so i'd go with the rice dextrose

CBachelor17MemberCool, as long as Im not shorting myself on the large insulin spike normal Dextrose creates than Im going with Rice. Maybe itll be enough to not feel hungover the next morning haha

Everything I've seen has basically said that rilose and dextrose are virtually identical and the only real reason to use rilose over dextrose is if you have very high sensitivity to corn products.. Of course there's no downside to using rilose, either.. Just sharing what I've seen.As far as the bolded above... I dunno what that's from, don't think I've seen it myself. But are you sure he wasn't referring to sugar, as in table sugar (sucrose)? That would make more sense since it's 50% fructose. Otherwise, all carbohydrates end up as "sugar"

spike would be the same since its still pure glucose.. i never tried rice dextrose since the regular corn stuff gave me horrible stomach pains

CBachelor17MemberIm referring to a Q&A with Keifer where he states that people under <10% looking to drop further while still making Muscle/Strength gains need to be much more specific on the type of carbohydrates they use. Carbs are sugar yes. But the molecular structure of potato starch is much different than a simple sugar such as Dextrose. So it will have a different metabolic effect on the body. He doesn't say in black in white that simple sugars should be used less, but based off that Q&A, other statements, and my body im going to try to avoid them as much as possible, while still using them along side high glycemic starch sources. I just dont want pure sugar like Ice Cream and Corn Derived Dextrose. Jelly on Toast for example Ill still do. I just want to try to cut it down and see what happens.

Your certainly entitled to your opinion sir.
Going beyond that fact, avoiding sugar where possible is going to be a healthier option when maintaining this diet long term. Which I plan to, taking in 100g+ of sugar 4-5 days a week is not good for you, I dont care what form of training your partaking in, or what nutrition regiment you are on.
