Janelle FustonMemberMy workout time falls around 6 a.m. 6-7 days a week and I was hoping to find out the best way to use the 10 lb container of Dextrose I purchased. I know it is used for a quick spike in insulin and I think I recall reading in the CBL book that you should NOT add it to your PWO shake if you do a.m. workouts because it will screw up the rest of your ULC day. (is this correct?) So if I plan to work out the next day, I would back load that evening. — Should I start my back load with a protein shake with dextrose added to it, or what would be the best way to incorporate it?- Or any suggestions of when, how much, and how often to use it would be super helpful..Not as many people do the 6 a.m. workouts as I was hoping for to reference from (that or I just haven't come across those forums just yet!). I initially planned to switch my workouts to be around the optimal time of 5 pm but the 24 i go to near my place is grossly packed with no equipment to spare from 4-8pm. Soooooo many people.. a.m. is prime time ;D Thanks in advance!

Richard SchmittModeratorYou can use the dextrose in a shake to begin the evening backload prior to an AM Training day, that's completely fine. It also depends on your goals whether or not to use dextrose in the mornings. Personally I think you'll be fine without it, and used in the evenings.I used to go to a 24, and I agree the mornings were extremely better and evenings was quite packed.

Janelle FustonMemberThanks Tex 🙂 I think I will do that, add it to the beginning of my carb load as long: as I'll be working out the morning after.

If you are fat loss focused you are better off not using carbs after AM training. As Tex said you can use some dextrose at night when you backload. If it were me though I would just return it or get rid of it. I'd rather eat actual food when I backload.

Janelle FustonMemberDarn..I wish I hadn't impulsively opened it to see what it looks like as soon as it landed on my kitchen counter. 10 lbs is so much!I loveeeeee to eat so real food would be my preference too. I've read you can bake with it though so I'm thinking it will be a win win if I have it during a back load but baked into something delicious 🙂

You can use it to bake with, for the desired sweetness it is 1.25 cups of dextrose to 1 cup of sugar. Or you can sprinkle that stuff over pancakes, baked potatoes, cereal, rice pudding, etc.

From my experience, dextrose just doesn't bake well. The texture is sort of weird. I would use a 50/50 mixture of dextrose and sugar.

Janelle FustonMemberLucky for me I've got a full 10 lbs so I'll do some experimenting. Thanks for the ratios guys!

Janelle FustonMemberAnother question actually pertaining to my PWO shake..the combination of L-Luecine, creatine, caffiene, MCT oil and WPI after a fasted morning workout kind of makes me nauseous. Any suggestions? I've never been into drinking anything other then water so its kind of a chore and I dread it.

Richard SchmittModeratorWhat type of whey are you using?

Janelle FustonMemberOptimum Nutrition – Platinum Hydro Whey Advanced Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolates Turbo Chocolate : 1 scoop is 30g, but as suggested in the book I'm only using about 10 g for the PWO shake

Richard SchmittModeratorYou're using the AM Shake or the PWO Shake? I would think having an ULC PWO Shake consisting of just whey, lecuine, creatine would be just perfect. You can keep with the MCT Oil if you want, the 10g of whey with 10g of MCT Oil is for that AM Shake as like “an upon meal shake”. Could also be that you're training with nothing, and then getting a rapid flush of some protein really quick, making for a hypoglycemic nausea feeling.

Brandon D ChristParticipantI'd personally get rid of the MCT oil. I could never take that in a PWO shake. Take it an hour later after the shake.

SpatzModeratorIf you don't want the dextrose, try and take it back. Seriously, so many places have very lenient return policies, especially if you've barely used it.Just a thought. 🙂 or keep it, it'll just last you forever. I find occasionally I'll sprinkle some on different things like rice or cereal or on my sweet potato. It's nice to have some, but I'm not sure about 10 lbs! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You could also try removing the caffeine and/or leucine to see how the Hydrowhey+creatine sits with you. Those both are relatively harsh on your taste buds (caffeine is hella bitter and leucine makes anything taste worse). If you can stomach the powder by itself start adding in the other two (maybe 1-2g of leucine and 50mg of caffeine at a time). Of course you probably won't measure those small of doses out, but eyeballing would probably do the trick. Hope it helps! Edit: or I would nix the caffeine altogether and instead try coffee with MCT a little after the PWO. Just a thought! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
