TokyoLifterMemberMy advice for those on CNS, stop over anaylizing, find what works and stick to it! Use recommendations as guidelines, because what works for one might be a bit defferent for another, which certainly includes that some ppl might have to stick to one specific aspect of these diets for a longer period of time. I will be sticking to 1:1 in grams for CNS which has thus far been taking about 1.5 lbs off my weight per week, I plan on sticking with this diet for no less than 6 months to a year to achieve what I want and Ive accepted that Im in it for the ling haul.
+1These damn numbers just cause confusion. Just keep the carbs under 30 g and don't eat low fat meals.
+1And go with a little common sense, if the meal is so fatty that you can't enjoy it, you're eating too much fat. If something is not going right, THEN is the time to analyze it, not complicating thing right from the start.

hotshot23ParticipantTo simplify… It appears by the sample menu's in the CNS book, that it is an approx. 60% fat to 40% protein ratio (calories). All of the latest science shows that diets in higher fat, moderate protein are the healthiest, and will allow your body to always use its own fat for constant energy. Secondly, ketones (ketosis) means that your body is burning fat and sparing muscle which requires less protein consumption.

Felix E FaulParticipantCould we please sum this up once and for all?Am I getting this right when I use 1:1 protein/fat based on my goal weight? Thanks in advance!

samuel r walkerParticipantI would stay largely 1:1.. If anything I would say this is good news bc you may not need to scrutinize as much about nailing macros on the head.

It's right if you are losing fat.

IgboMesoMemberCould we get the FAQs for Carb Nite fixed with this info? I just bought CNS 2 weeks ago, and it was deliberately vague about this. But having listened to some podcasts and read through the sample meal plans again, there does seem to be more Protein than Fat in terms of grams. I've been having good results actually with 1:1 in terms of grams, this is a typical Keto percentage. Really hope this gets cleared up by Kiefer.

FairyGuestHey, I just read through most of this thread (intense!!).I am convinced that CNS requires roughly 1g Protein : 1g Fat, and that they should be eaten together, and preferably in the latter part of the day. It's that simple.I don't believe that we need to be militant about grams of protein/fat on CNS. I believe that eliminating carbohydrates 6 days a week, and only eating when hungry is 90% of CNS.The fact is, that when you are living exclusively off the two most satiating macro-nutrients in existence it's hard to over eat due to real hunger (especially if you avoid nuts and cheese 😉 ).It's also essential to have circulating fatty acids in your bloodstream if you wish to release fat stores without fat burning, metabolism brutalizing drugs. Fact.So don't stress (after all, stress makes you fatter 😉 ). Going forward, my plan is to drink coffee with butter when hungry in the AM period, and eat fatty meat when hungry in the PM period. Simple. No macro counting required. No thinking what-so-ever required. Do this six days a week and you will lose fat quickly, while keeping your metabolism revving, and maintaining energy throughout the day.

Richard SchmittModeratorYep pretty much it. No need to stress over macros just keep carbs really low eat, eat when hungry, and don't add unnecessary fats to certain foods. Butter in coffee?...I'm seriously curious about the taste.

FairyGuestI am seriously addicted to butter + coffee!!!!I could drink it almost exclusively all day long, and I would if I were not trying to optimise my sleep.

Well try adding some isolate if anything too ;D but yeah I just chugged down coffee with coconut oil and was mad because I didn't have more coffee 'n oil...=/ I might try the butter when I start CNS tomorrow

It is just like cream actually. However, you have to mix it in a blender or else the butter just floats to the top.

FairyGuestI like it floating to the top 🙂 Like cream should.

Richard SchmittModeratorI guess it wouldn't be any different with the oil sitting on top.

LumberJackedMemberI'm not sure why this was so hard to understand for people. Start at 1:1g ratio…if it's not working how you like it, start lowering fat. This applies to both CBL/CNS, though for CNS which is essentially a CKD, keeping the fat up is kinda necessary if you're resistance training and/or doing cardio. You'll crash and burn otherwise.I'm doing a CBL SA phase and I keep my ratio's 1:1g on ULC day's and on CBL days for HALF the day, once I start back loading I'm focusing on getting CARBS in, which is kinda the whole point of a back load. CARBS. Unless you're just eating Brioche, Croissants and deep fried junk, this means your fat is going to be significantly lower on CBL days.Experiment and adjust things for yourself off your OWN progress. It's not rocket surgery.Oh and butter + coffee is f'in amazing. I gotta say though, most of the time I actually prefer the CO over Butter. Then again I could probably eat a stick of butter by itself no problem. And blending is pretty much necessary, only because if you don't you run out of CO/Butter too quickly and then have to just drink the coffee sans deliciousness.

FairyGuestI keep butter supplies stashed in my freezer so I never run out any more ;D
