Read that article a while back. It just muddies the water on the topic. Even though it talks of nns in general it hits specifically on sucralose of which there is none in diet coke. I know diet coke is safe ulc but wondered if it was during the morning fast. I guess it's a crap shoot that I will take on an individual basis.

You don't have to have black coffee, it's fine with HWC, coconut milk or almond milk (personally I go for the latter with just a splash of coconut milk, virtually zero carbs and around 5 kcal)

Right. I just figured since most answers vary that black was optimal. It's more about the sweetener. Black coffee is too bitter.  I use stevia but I am a little wary about it during the morning fast.  I will test it for myself and see how it goes.

I enjoy diet soda but the idea of having it first thing in the morning gives me a stomach ache lol. I would advise against it. Do you like green tea?

I would stay away from any regular intake of diet coke or diet sodas, it does a lot more harm than good,If you dont like black cofee concentrated, have a bigger cup of it diluted on water or add HWC on it to make it less bitter,Or just buy caffeine pills and take them, thats what my girlfriend does since the smell of cofee makes her sick lol

Just drink water then. Or hell club soda if you want or need that fizz

If you want the soda taste, add some lemon juice and stevia to club soda, or do the same to plain water.  or do a shot of espresso with HWC.  way better than black coffee

I've done the soda water. I'm addicted to diet coke and coke zero. The zero for back loads only. I can switch around easy enough. Coffee would have to be with hwc and stevia and possibly co. Thought maybe that was a bit much though. That's why I down diet coke in the morning.

Black is only optimal if you're workout out first thing in the AM. Otherwise throw some coconut oil, a dash of protein, some salt in it. Much better. Or just don't do it and stick with water.Diet coke isn't an acceptable replacement for anything, imo.

I used to be a big fan of Pepsi Max but when I go a few days without it I don't enjoy it as much. I do like having one or so with backload meals but I haven't even been having them then. I don't think diet soda is this devil that it is made out to be but I would make sure you're drinking plenty of water otherwise.

My gf drinks a small can of diet coke a day and she is doing south beach. It's allowed on south beach. I keep telling her although it may be allowed, you should basically only drink water. Perhaps diet coke doesn't have carbs/calories/sugar/etc, but it has chemicals to make it taste sweet. While it may or may not affect any type of diet like a regular soda, having chemicals is enough for me to stay away. That's my argument. She doesn't listen, of course.

Personal preference I guess. It's a chemically laden, synthetic beverage with no nutritional or hydration value. So, IMO, it's unacceptable as a replacement for anything. But, I could ask, other than provide a negative feedback dopamine response, what benefit is it providing you? If there is something, then do it up!
