McLeod2012MemberIn one of Dr. Norton's tweets recently, he stated that there “was nothing magical about eating carbs at night. It is just another way of someone trying to sell you something.” I am not trying to start gossip or anything like that and I also have much respect for Dr. Norton, I was just curious what Keifer thought about him and if he thinks he's trustworthy. Open for discussion

zewskiMemberKiefer at least knows Layne's research since I've heard him mention his studies on leucine.

NsharpGuestI would like to see this discussed as well!

Kevin rogersParticipantCorrect, there is nothing magical about eating carbs at night unless you are following a protocol like CNS or CBL.Bottom line for me, and it seems to be a lot of other people out there from reading this on the forum, this is the easiest diet I have ever followed with the best results. What more do you really need to say?

Brandon D ChristParticipantIt;'s not magic anyways, it's science.

Nice hah

Lasse ElsbakParticipantAny sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic. 😉 -Clarke slightly paraphrased 😛

AdamFiddlerGuestCage fight between Kiefer and Layne? Seems pretty even money imo. -Adam

Cr PowerlinateMemberKiefer released the basics of CBL for free, so in theory someone could follow the practice (or come to the same conclusion by reading research) without paying him a dime. That being said, Layne works for Scivation and has a vested interest in pushing BCAA pulsing and their pre/post workout nutrition products. I enjoy his work but he is not without a conflict of interest himself.

NmanParticipantI definitely respect Layne Norton and think he knows what he's talking about. I think Kiefer and Norton are 2 guys that are a lot more knowledgeable than most out there. I think both Kiefer and Norton could give you results. However to diss CBL is just dumb! I've tried almost every diet out there and CBLing is BY FAR my favorite and gives me the results I want and is easy to comply with. Not to mention the science behind it…the reference section of the CBL book is huge!!

Adam R DuggahMemberIn reference to an earlier post talking about a fight between Norton and Keifer…no disrespect…but Norton strikes me as a pretty standard “bodybuilder” who oils up and flexes…Keifer on the other hand just looks like a “mans man” to me. Ya know? I'd put my money on Keifer…Not that I have much…but I'd put it on John lolAll kidding aside, I respect both men's knowledge. But the science behind CBL cannot be overlooked. Carbing up at night, along with training at the correct time, is just too good to ignore.

CaseyDMemberI'll second what's already been said. It's not magic, it's simply science. It's true though, you could get the same results using another protocol, but why would you want to??? I work out for about an hour, then get to eat ice cream, sugary cereal, and a whole host of other foods that supposedly make you fat. It's stupid how simple and easy this diet is.

What does that even mean? And I agree with most people on this topic, it's hard not to be jaded when you work for a supplement company. No matter how knowledgeable you are you are going to steer your research to things that sell products or you aren't getting paid/published by them

Brandon D ChristParticipantSo what if Kiefer does make money from this? Everybody has to make a living and things that are done professionally will always be better than things done by an amatuer. The quality of Kiefer's articles, books, ect. wouldn't be nearly as good as what they are if he was doing them on his spare time. Since this is his full time job, he can be 100% dedicated to his work.If I made my living by bodybuilding, I would improve greatly because my diet could be perfect and I could workout as much as I want. I wouldn't have to worry about working around my day job. What makes Kiefer great is that he isn't owned by anyone. He doesn't do commercials, unlike most of the "gurus".

Adam R DuggahMemberIntensity Junkie, the statement was made regarding a “throw down” between keifer and norton…by standard bodybuilder I meant a sponsored supplement competitor with little functional strength and a lot of show muscle. I can see by your profile pic that you appear to be a bodybuilder. I didn't mean to offend you. That's why I put “standard” bodybuilder. Perhaps a better word would have been “stereotypical” bodybuilder. Stereotypical meaning 6 meals per day, no carb before bed, steroid using, etc. I certainly didn't mean to imply all bodybuilders were this way. Because you are on a forum like this, discussing a diet like this, I do not believe you would fall under the ospices of “standard” or “stereotypical”.Ibobland08, who said it was bad to make money researching and writing? He certainly has to make a living. I will gladly pay for legitimate scientifically based research, diets, and programs. I have 4 certifications including NSCA and ACSM. I wish I could get my money and time back for all of them. The amount of useless outdated information within the fitness profession is disgusting and it's being taught on a daily basis.I'm glad there are people like Keifer attempting to fix things. That's why I responded so critically to a Layne Norton comment. People who push supplements, meal frequency, etc. really frustrate me ( I'm sure I'm not the only one). Plus he always makes the same face while flexing in every picture....lol
