water retention. Carbs hold water in the strangest areas.

RoadblockParticipantIt took me 3 weeks for my body to normalize. End of 3rd week and into 4th bloating is gone and weight has started coming off again. Give it a few weeks to a month and see how it goes. Just stay consistant. If you start changing things around too much it might take longer.RB

Lasse ElsbakParticipantI didn't understand anything of what the OP said. :/Please try to organize your thoughts man, and use question marks if you want to ask a question. 😉

FineSigilMemberIronically enough, i do get some of this, despite being pretty lean. The pattern is hard to predict but definitely noticeable. I remember reading that the face has a lot of gluticocorticoid receptors which makes it particularly sussceptible to water retention. It's usually compounded by stress, a depressed “mood”, along with just gorging on junk food. Face bloat is not pleasant, and I'd be curious to hear of any remedies (or even if others have experienced this). And just an observation on Kiefer, but you can notice varying levels of facial “crispness” hes shown on his latest youtube videos. Presumably he's CBLing…..

Ali123MemberThanks finesigil how could this issue be solved. Do you think doing cardio such as sprints would be beneficial or do you think just easing off of the carbs when backloading.

Brandon D ChristParticipantHmmm, strange I never heard of face bloating. You may also want to look into a possible food allergy.

Possibly food allergies, but this happened to Alex Navarro as well.

Ali123MemberI believe it's where you hold the most water me as person I generally hold a lot of water on my face.

FineSigilMemberWhat I've noticed is this is very common in females, particularly around their period. It has to do with hormones (estrogen, aldosterone, etc.) Annorexic/belimic girls also exhibit this (puffy/fat faces despite rail thing bodies). But it's far beyond me to speculate on the scientific mechanism for males. You'll notice that some guys naturally maintain “leaner”/chiselled faces despite putting on body fat/carb backloading while others will have to cut to very low levels and are particularly susceptible to intra-day or day-to-day water fluctuations. Sounds like you're in the latter camp (as am I). I think much of it is genetic, though I'm keen to find dietary/lifestyle tweaks that will help this. I think reducing bodyfat is the best/most realistic way. When you get shredded, various factors in addition to body fat % (inflammation, etc.) seem to optimize and you'll find looking in the mirror a pleasant experience once again. So optimize CBL to burn fat - perhaps be more judicious in frequency/volume of backloads and experiment with more walking in fasted state. I bet sprinting will help as well.Â
