FreyaKeymasterDay 4 of prep phase today…. Feel drunk and hung over… both me and my partner…I've actually been feeling really good so far, mentally I have felt strong and more focused. Boyfriend has been struggling more than me (Having a niggling sore head all the time, hungry but otherwise OK).Well, last night we decided to hit the gym after work (About 7pm)... Not a good idea!Made up pre and post wo shake as recommended in the book... slightly less for myself...Well I think we got a caffeine overdose. The rest of the night we felt dizzy light headed and sick... we ended up having some icecream to get the edge off.... well it didnt...(So wondering how that affect our transition stage)....Woke up this morning starving this morning but only had my coffee w/ cream so far, and a small tsp coconut oil... Feeling slightly better for it.... Is this normal to go through or is it just a caffeine overdoze to be avoided?

CTMemberI thought you'd read the book?If you'd read the book, you'd know this was coming and it's just a wall you have the bust on through. Having the ice cream has jacked your prep phase, so you're back to square one. The first 10 days are gonna be shitty until your body adjusts. It hits some harder than others, but if you can't make it past 4 days maybe this isn't for you?Sorry for being harsh, but I think you just gave up and that annoys me :/

sckielyParticipantFirstly, how much ice cream? It does pretty much mean you have to restart the prep to get the most from it.Just remember that the more you consume fat the better the transition will be. So get your fat levels nice and high. Throw on some HIIT session at the beginning to drain carbs from muscles. This can shorten the prep. What I have found is even though it can shorten prep phase you are still best off doing all 10days as this really kickstarts the fat burning process. You do however get through the horrible period quicker?

Richard SchmittModeratorLike what CT said, you knew this was coming since you have/read the book. Unless you skimmed over it? O.o Also what Sckiely and CT said about the Prep-Phase, sorry but you will have to do it from Day 1 because of that ice cream. If you wanted something “sweet” we have plenty of ULC Dessert Recipes on these forums you can look at. If anything look online too. But yes do some HIIT to get that “feeling” out of the way and feeling better later on down the road. I think the whole thing of “Shortening” the Prep-Phase is shortening the feelings you get from going ULC, not the way the body starts to use fat as fuel. So please stick to the 10 Days, then enjoy your backload on the 10th Day after a Training Session.

FreyaGuestOh yes…Did I disapoint myself for giving in? Ofcourse!! I had no idea the reaction was going to be THAT strong. It felt like I had been on the booze for 3 days and just coming off it 😮 I do believe I did an overkill on the caffeine though… which I will not do again. I have been doing HIIT first thing in the morning after coffee, and that might have spead thing up....What can I say... You live and learn. The book doesnt give you all the answers. We all come in different size, shape and requirements and that has to be taken in to consideration. Some trial and errors is to be expected.... I think so anywayI will start again tomorrow... 10 new days. Better prepared 🙂

Brandon D ChristParticipantEh, to be honest you probably don't have to redo the prep phase if you just had a half cup of ice cream, but I would reccomend doing it to be safe.

Igor VidovicParticipantFreya:I feel your pain in a way. Day 6 of prep phase and it's the first time I feel like complete shit. Shoulder workout today was the sissiest workout I've had in years. Hang in there get through the 10 days life gets much better afterwards from what I can see and hear from poking around through the forum. Good luck

Brandon D ChristParticipantI hate going ULC myself. I always do chores on ULC days to keep my mind busy so I don't think about it.

Intensity JunkieMemberI never understand why people hate it… I love no carbs, it's easier and more satisfying

Brandon D ChristParticipantI never understand why people hate it... I love no carbs, it's easier and more satisfying
1. It's restrictive of the bat2. You never get that "full" feeling when there is no carbs.3. Nearly everything requires cooking and refrigeration4. It is very difficult to get a low carb meal at a lot of restaurants (McDonalds actually comes in handy in this situation)5. Carbs dominate convenience foods6. ULC is more expensive; rice, fruit, potatos, and bread are all cheap; meat, cheese, and nuts are all expensive.I have no problem doing CBL, but I would be miserable on Carb Nite. I just think carbs taste better than high fat foods. Plus the energy and strength are much higher when I eat a lot of carbs. I'm sorry, but coconut oil does not give me as much energy as oats does pre-workout. I love CBL and think it is the best diet out there, but I just hate going low carb.

Next time your BF starts to get that headache tell him to just eat a bunch of fats. Nuts, butter, cream, avocado, cheese...just something. It will subside. Personally I measure coconut oil by the Tbsp. You will feel better if you up it.

NewJennGuestHi Freya, welcome!I second what dwatts said about the fats it helps with energy, headaches, and hunger. And I agree the prep phase definitely feels like the after affects of a heavy drinking weekend! I am a Carb Niter (for now) and two months in I have hit my stride and feel great. I dont crave many things any more, I just make mental lists what I want on carb nite. I still miss fruit and the love of my life; bread. But I can live without for most of the week, knowing that I can have them later and have a have results on the scale and in the mirror two. Keep going it gets better/easier. 😉
