RichmanKeymasterI'm not a newbie when it comes to protein but I am baffled by my 4:00 afternoon protein shake.I am doing CBL and have a PWO shake after my morning workout (40g w/3g leucine, 10g creatine and 400 mg coffee extract). I feel normal after this shake but when I have another in the afternoon at around 4:00 I feel like a bloated goat. :-XAnyone else experiencing this? If so, any advice would be appreciated.

mwachtelParticipantEver consider maybe supplementing with some digestive enzymes/ Betaine HCL?I'd research those, then decide if they could be coming from those type issues.

Sometimes it is as simple as drinking it too fast. I have a major problem with swallowing air and if I chug my protein shake (which I want to badly because I feel so depleted after my workouts) I get really bloated from all the swallowed air. If you chug yours, try drinking it slowly.

RichmanGuestThanks for the responses. It's funny you mention taking in air because I feel like my stomach is loaded with air after I drink my shakes so quickly. I'll try to adjust and see if that helps. Thanks,Rich

RichmanGuestSeems the one big difference from my morning shake to my afternoon shake is that I use a protein shaker for my afternoon shake at work. After shaking the shaker there are so many air bubbles mixed in that I couldn't help but swallow a ton of air. Now I just let my drink sit for a minute while the bubbles pop and take the top off the shaker instead of downing it with the screen and top on. Problem solved. 😀

I've also noticed that using a shaker with one of those wire, whisk-like "blender balls" instead of the mesh-like top thingy greatly reduces (pretty much eliminates) the formation of those air bubbles.Letting it sit for a few minutes works, as well, but if you're a perpetual shaker like me (pretty much between every sip), then it may be worth the couple of bucks.
