CaseWinduKeymasterBrand-spankin' new to the forum, sorry if I'm asking a question that has already been answered! After ten days of preparation and a brutal leg day at the gym today (ending around 6:25PM), I had a PWO shake consisting of Whey isolate, skim milk, and a brown spotted banana at 6:45PM. Then, around 7:15 I endulged in my first backload. I had about a quarter gallon of ice cream, a cherry turn over, an almond bear claw, and a few cookies, all from the publix bakery. I ate until I felt full, not disguisting. Certainly could have stomached more. How am I doing so far? Should I continue slamming carbs throughout the evening? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Even though it has reduced fat content milk still contains casein which is not something we want when attempting spike insulin maximally. 2. Go ahead and consume carbs liberally throughout the 6 hour window and then evaluate the next morning.enjoy.

CaseWinduGuestI remember reading somewhere that skim had more sugar despite it being low fat so I figured that would help with a spike, good to know that it contains casein, though. Thank you for the info! I will keep skim milk out of my diet from here on out. Liberal carb consumption it is then! Thanks again Jason.

This is just PWO? Having milk later on in the back load would be fine, right?

Casein does not negatively affect insulin. Kiefer actually reccomends casein in the PWO shake. Casein helps prolong protein synthesis. However, I am not sure if milk is an appropriate source of casein due to is being denatured, unless you are drinking raw milk.

CaseWinduGuestOk good to know, yeah 10-25g of casein (depending on whether density bulking or strength accumulating) is an ingredient in the PWO shake.

Brandon D ChristParticipantCasein hydro does not taste THAT bad. I still think straight leucine is much worse. Anyways, Kiefer recommends casein hydro intra workout, post workout, and for backloading. He also recommends intact casein post workout and when backloading. Look at page 139 in the CBL book where it lists the Hypertrophic Potentiator. He recommends intact casein.
