Sherylea HurstParticipantI have read conflicting information about fish oil and how it is added to your daily fat macros. I have read some posts where it seems as though the fat content in fish oil does not get counted towards your daily fat intake and others that say it does. After doing a refresh on my daily macros I am getting 102 grams of fat and 106 grams of protein. I am taking in 1500 calories for the day. This is well over .5 grams of fat for me but my diet consists of MCT, EGGS, GRASS FED BEEF, BACON, 1/4 cup COTTAGE CHEESE AND SOME ICEBERG LETTUCE AND/OR BRUSSEL SPROUTS. Currently I take about 2 tbsp. of Fish Oil per day. Should I get rid of 1 of these tablespoons? I also take in 2 tbsp of MCT per day. Long winded but just trying to find out if these fats from fish oil are counted? Thanks in advance 🙂

maxwkwMemberIf I'm counting I do count fish oil. Especially if I'm taking that much.

Sherylea HurstParticipantIm trying to tinker with this but if I take out the fish oil and add in extra grass fed steak it also raises my fat content up. If I take out the fish oil and do not add some food in then my daily calories will only be around 1300, im not sure if this matters? I am doing HIIT 4 days a week and training heavy 6 days a week. Any thoughts as how I should structure this?

If you're doing that much volume I wouldn't take out the fish oil under any circumstances. There is no way that your tissue isn't inflamed with that type of schedule, and I would rank anti-inflammatory foods much higher in priority than dialing in your macros.

Sherylea HurstParticipantI suppose the only way to get my protein up and my fat to stay the same would be to use either egg whites or protein powder? Im not a fan of chicken or turkey, i pretty much only eat grass fed beef but adding more of this just makes my fat go up even higher??

Those are both good choices, yes. Not that you have to take this much at once, but two scoops of the protein powder I use PWO gives me 46g of protein, and 5g of fat (only because I order it with MCT powder). It's hard to ignore the convenience and benefit of whey protein, especially with the amount of training you do.

Brandon D ChristParticipantI count fish oil (well kind of because I don't really count my macros). The confusion probably comes from the fact that omega-3 is really difficult to store as fat. This is true, but I think your metabolism still responds to it like it would any other long chain fatty acid.

PhattyMemberI take 10ml of fish oil a day but I don't count it in my macros because a significant amount of fat from my food is left in my pans/on my plate.

Sherylea HurstParticipantDoes most agree then to get my protein up and keep my fat down I should then take the 2 scoops of protein post workout?

If you are having trouble getting protein in, that is an excellent idea.

EMS218GuestI track my macros but do not include the fish oil. I consider it more of a supplement than a food. I take 2tsp of SFH Fish Oil a day. I think it's around 5g fat but not including the fish oil my macros are usually 1500kcal/under 30NC/120ish Protein/70-90F depending on the day.I am 5'7'', female, around 9-10%BF, around 113# and currently prepping for a bikini competition.hope this helps! 🙂
