MikehrMemberHey Man,First of all I admire your dedication to getting the facts instead of just blindly argueing with people which is very common on forums. I agree with your statements 100 percent and with regards to the meat thing, yes insulin is realeased when you eat ANY protein source but much less and less of spike occurs with fattier meats, I couldnt find the study but the difference between say a chicken breast and rib eye steak was huge!! What you dont want to happen on Carb Nite is for your fat levels to be too low and for your body to start breaking down protein into glucose to be stored as GLYCOGEN, when your protein is too high or fat too low your body changes its efforts from using fat for energy to breaking down protein into glucose. So the reason that the whey is supposed to be avoided (suggest by Keifer himself) is there is little to no fat withit so if your body isn't needing that protein for protein synthesis it will be broken down into glucose.
Hey Mikehr,That makes a lot of sense, thanks for the clarification. It's funny how you start to put the jigsaw together piece by piece with this program. If you manage to find the link to insulin spikes for protein sources please can you post it?Essentially then, chicken, turkey and leaner cuts of meat will actually be counter-productive on CNS because without the additional fat you are forcing your body to break down protein as its primary energy source, not fat?Is it counter-productive to eat chicken if you include fat such as coconut oil or bacon, do you know?#Please don't make me give up chicken! 😉
Feel free to eat chicken, but if you are eating leaner cuts of it then it might be a good idea to toss some bacon, butter, or coconut oil on it.
+1 exactly man! The best way I learned was being stubborn and doing it , one day I swapped out my fatty beef meat for a chicken breast and I felt like SH*T. When I do eat chicken I cook it in with ground beef or like posted above cook it in some butter/CO or have some good OL bacon with it.

Jimmy TParticipantSo you've “only” lost net 9 pounds after an entire 4 weeks? ::)I started out near your size but didn't lose as much as you during the orientation phase. I spent the next couple of weeks seemingly spinning my wheels but I believe I was actually balancing out some of the water weight loss with real fat loss. Now I'm 3 months into CNS and I've lost 1.5 lbs on avg per week over that period. The results haven't been linear and certainly not so in the first month. Also, stop weighing yourself so often.
I've been following the CNS religiously for the past 4 weeks... Initially, I lost 13 lbs in the reorientation phase... Since that time, I've gained about 4 pounds each carb nite and I've only managed to lose that same 4 pounds by the next carb nite... I'm not losing ANYTHING just up and down from what I am gaining on Carb Nite... I'm getting very frustrated and not sure what I'm doing wrong... Stats:Â 6'0", 245 lbs, Male 34% BFTypical Daily Intake:3-4 cups of coffee per day, with heavy whipping creamwaterBreakfast:Â 4 slices bacon, 1 boiled egg.Lunch:Â hot dog, 2 slices bacon, 4 chicken wings (no breading, bleu cheese dressing), cheese stick.Snack:Â Cheddar Cheese, summer sausage.Dinner:Â salad with romaine, iceberg, chicken, cheese, egg, bacon and bleu cheese.Daily intake is similar to this, but theres been No progress on weight loss in three weeks and I'm starting to get frustrated... Help??? >:(

cloudybrainParticipantThanks guys for compliments on my post, I was hoping I wasn't going to get bashed because of how I was treating protein shakes, but I'm trying to approach it with a smart and clear way. Simply finding ways to get meats can be hard, especially when I'm going to places where everything on the menu has carbs. Cooking meats at home and bringing them to lunch can also take too much time (same reasoning why people skip breakfasts). So protein shakes is an extremely simple solution since I can buy in bulk and keep it stored. So that is my work around. I also stay away from beef jerkies since they can contain a bit of carbs on the sauce; however I did hit the jackpot since there is a station that started to sell freshly made jerky with no sauce. My whole way of thinking changed completely after 2 months when I first posted my concerns on this board.I agree that too much protein can be broken down and converted into glucose, that is why it is imperative for me to eat fat with those protein shakes. I consume a 1:1 calorie intake of fats to proteins in every meal. I keep my monounsaturates low, I keep my polyunsaturates low ~5-6% (omega 6 to omega 3 a 1:1).

I agree with most people here about the food choices. Let's simplify your diet. Here's an example:Morning: Coffee and cream (limit the cream to 3 tablespoons)Lunch: Pound of ground beef (Start with 90/10) Dinner: Half a pound of ground beef, 2 eggs, couple slices of baconBefore Bed: Half a pound of ground beef, 4 chicken wings.Start eating real meats, not processed foods. The dairy can also cause people to stall so limit it.
