katParticipantDamn…take out cheese and nuts?? That stinks. I'm on week 4 as well and not seen much change either – no gain, but possibly just a wee loss. Cheese, nuts, avocados have been staples for me (along with meats, fats). I'm going to give it past the 4th CN, which is Saturday, then cut the nuts out and cut back on the cheese…looking forward to see how you do with this, jlbryan!

pshannonMemberIf anything I would cut the cheese before I cut the nuts….There are so many puns/innuendos in there its GREAT!

Cory McCarthyMemberHI all....I am feeling frustrated with Carb Nite and I know that a lot of people hit their point of frustrations with this diet and then are successfully able to move on...but I am just getting frustrated with this whole combination lock of trying to figure out what will make this successful!I am on my 4th week of this plan and have seen ZERO results. My weight is the same as when I first finished reorientation (actually about 2 pounds higher). MY pants and clothes are just as tight as they always have been and I am seeing zero progress of this plan.I did do a BOD POD last week, so I suppose I can go back in maybe 2 weeks to see if there is any progress. Here is what is confusing. I was under the impression I didn't have to do any hardcore exercise on this plan, so I have been doing HIIT about twice a week and weightlifting 2-3 times a week. Am I supposed to fast in the morning even if I can't workout until the afternoon? or is the fasting only relevant when I am working out in the morning? My lean mass was 110 or something so I was told to eat between 110-141 of protein:fat, which I have been. My carb nite was on Friday and I had sushi, pizza, 2 donuts, a piece of cheesecake and a hot pretzel at a football game. I DID drink one beer that night, and on the very next night (a non carb nite) I did have 2 vodka martinis and a half a beer. I dont know if that is affecting me negatively or not!? Can anyone offer any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?I DO like that I am never hungry on this plan...however the fact that I am seeing ZERO results is starting to make me waver!!! :-[
You do not have to exercise on CNS, according to Keifer. What you are doing should suffice. You should be fasting every morning. 12 hours from your previous meal the night before. At the 12-hour mark, break the fast.@ 110 lbs. lean mass, 110-143g protein per day is the right mark (1 - 1.3g/lb. lean body weight). Keep fat 1:1 with that, or as close as possible.Cut the alcohol. It is throwing the balance of your hormones (which negatively impacts fat burning and storage), and especially don't drink it on a non-CN. I keep advising this, and I know people will argue with me b/c they love alcohol. It is like unprotected sex with risky partners. Is a moment's pleasure worth complications in the long run? Vices are what they are, but we must accept the pitfalls associated with said vices.Sorry if I am coming off as a bit of an ass, I am a little under-the-weather this morning (quite literally, the weather is shit). ;DCory

jlbryan38GuestThanks Kat! I was thinking the same thing! Cheese and nuts help me so much in this diet! AGH! >:( But I will see how it goes. It looks like we are about on an equal time frame. My 4th carb nite is tomorrow because I have my sons birthday party and stuff. So we shall see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to you too!!!!!!!

P.J.ParticipantHi jlbryan welcome! The 3 most common pitfalls I've personally observed among my friends and people I know who have had trouble on CNS are:1) Too much exercise(you may be working yourself more than you realize)2) "controlling" yourself on carb-nights3) alcoholGood luck and don't lose heart! Remain patient and flexible. It's simply a process of elimination. We're here to help you out as best we can 🙂

I know I shouldn't have drank. I was kind of dreaming since there were no carbs in vodka martinis, I would be ok! 😉 I get it though...alcohol is poison; hence why every living diet says not to drink. Thanks for your input Cory! As usual, you are very helpful and supportive! 🙂

As usual, you are very helpful and supportive! 🙂You're welcome. You'd be surprised how many poisons are all around us... poisonous foods, drinks, people, surroundings, jobs, etc. Control everything you can, and minimize what you cannot. For instance, I shop 100% at Whole Foods Market... I refuse to even use standard detergents on my clothes, b/c of the parabens and other chemical shit companies are toxifying us with. Plus, I do not support animal testing, and would rather suffer than let a defenseless creature suffer in my stead. It isn't easy, and temptation is ever-present, but the results and health benefits are worth it to me. I am having excellent results on CNS, and I am a Vegetarian!I love breaking conventions, and putting them firmly on their asses.Cory

zach75GuestOh yeah do not take out nuts. I would take out all DAIRY first…. not just cheese. I eat straight up peanut butter on a spoon everyday and having amazing results. Also I agree with the others, go insane on carb nites and then scale back if you have to.

FairyGuestI hate being told exercising could make my progress worse 🙁Is there any actual guide about how much is too much? Or do we just guess?I don't do cardio, only HIIT, climbing, RT – and I'm planning to introduce gymnastics and dance.

Thanks so much for your response. I definitely dont think I am overdoing myself working out...at all. If anything I was wondering if I wasn't doing enough. I suppose I could do more damage on carb nites. SO I think I will work on doing more damage on carb nites and cutting out dairy.I really appreciate all the support from everyone! I really want this diet to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're fine. 😉 Enjoy yourself, and only pull back when your body tells you to. Your body knows, and it will speak to you. No one, not even the athletic elite, can go balls to the walls full stop.Suggested limits are such b/c not everyone has the same natural recovery abilties. Genetics do play a big factor, and while that isn't very politically correct, lies don't help anyone. I am not in the business of sugar-coating to salve feelings. I want to help, not deceive. We must all work with what we were born with. We must all leave excuses at the door.Cory

katParticipantIt is also possible, I surmise, that jlbryan and I are just impatient. I, for one, thought I would have lost more by now, but it seems much tweaking and evaluating/reevaluating is in order.I did lose a solid 5 lbs during the Reorientation phase, but have only lost 3-4 lbs in this (beginning) 4 weeks. *sure seems like I gained it all overnight*Not trying to jack your thread, jl, but wanted to thank you for the initial question/concern and to all that responded. Ya'll's information, experiences, and encouragement will keep me on the ledge!!Kathy

Kathy, I totally agree with you! 😉 I definitely am wanting to see faster the results. It is a mentality I have to get over...much like learning to eat fats when everything in my being says "what are you f'ing doing?!?!" LOL! I have always found diets that allowed me to drop weight quickly, however, where has that gotten me? Right here at 44% BF because I always gain it back quickly. So I guess I need to suck it up! ;D I assume so many people have responded because we have all had one of these moments on this diet! LOL! Which is why I knew I just needed talked down from the ledge from some sage veterans of this program!!Thanks all again for all of you input and advice!Julie
