Andrew GustafsonMemberAfter spending a year on Paleo, i wasn't happy with the progress that was being made so i switched over to CBL. After effortlessly staying the same weight for about two months, i decided that i wasn't happy “staying the same” and i needed to lose some fat before staying on CBL, so i switched to CNS. I've now been doing that for about 6 weeks and noticed that i've gained about 5 lbs., but i feel like my pants have been getting looser, and i've had to tighten my belt another notch.Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is there an explanation as to why that makes sense? Basically i started CNS around 192 lbs (6 feet tall exactly), and now 6 weeks later i'm up to about 197 lbs. Don't think i'm gaining muscle because i've cut down my lifting a bunch (down from 3x's a week to once a week), but like i mentioned earlier, my pants seem to continue to get looser. The only other changes i've made since switching to CNS is that i started adding in Whey Protein Isolate in the afternoon to raise my protein more, and i've started mixing in Sugar-Free Fiber maybe 3-4 times a week (Target Brand Mucinex). Just wondering if those things might be doing something that messes with water weight.I know the real answer is: if you feel good and are losing body fat, who cares about the number on the scale, but i guess i'm just a little curious/concerned that i'm not actually losing body fat. When it happens so gradually, it's hard for me to trust my eyes and my perception on if my pants are feeling looser or not.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorIt could be the fiber. Sometimes taking in to much fiber can bloat you and back you up which will keep your weight higher.

Penny DannerParticipantAre you tracking your macros?I was doing great tracking nothing but carbs to make sure I stayed under 30 net, (I come from paleo too) then I got higher and higher with my fat intake and I gained after losing (first month don't know what I lost, didn't weigh....then lost 2.2 the 2nd month and have gained that plus more). I am now eating 1g protein/lb bodyweight and .6-.75g fat/lb BW. I think it is working so far...just a few days in but the scale went down a little.

Andrew GustafsonMemberInteresting, thanks for the input on the Fiber. Especially since i'm specifically taking it to not be backed up or bloated.I do track my macros, and i actually track almost everything in Myfitnesspal. I'm a math guy, so i like having the data. I'm pretty consistently around 175 - 190 g of Protein and 125 - 150 g of Fat, but sometimes get a little closer to that 1/1 Protein to Fat ratio. Maybe i should just drop that fat a little more. I hate the idea of following my calories too closely but am willing to do it. If i thought it mattered that much, i could see myself doing it, i just find it hard to believe that dropping from 2200 calories a day to 2000 calories a day is going to make a humongous difference. I am absolutely sure every day though that i stay under 30 grams of usable carbs until carb nite. That is not a problem to keep an eye on.

Penny DannerParticipantI'm not worrying about the calories right now….I'm just eating the protein gms and fat gms (and keeping carbs less than 30net) and letting the calories fall where they do.Any reason you cut your lifting back? Are you doing any HIIT?

Andrew GustafsonMemberI cut back on my lifting because i'm teaching summer school, and the schedule is short (only 6 weeks) but it's basically all day. So it's just basically a time-crunch to get it in more than once. And it sounds from my research that it's not totally necessary to go as much as before. Mid-July i'm hoping to get back to more though.I did HIIT in the form of 45 minutes of competitive full-court basketball once a week for the first few weeks, but again i had to cut that now for a few weeks. I did feel like that helped weight-wise, but i don't feel like i've put on fat since i stopped doing that. Just weight. Which, i guess, is where my confusion comes in.
