BlaxmasParticipantI apologize in advance if this has been covered before but I looked around and didn't see a thread about it so here it goes:Both CNS and CBL call for a 10 day prep phase that eliminates almost all usable carbs. In the CNS book, Kiefer says the diet is really intended for the sedentary individual and not the athlete but on a podcast I heard him say that you can workout during CNS. (Did he change his mind?) But my question is about lifting heavy during the 10 day prep phase of CNS/CBL. Can it be done safely? Are there pros and cons to doing it? I want to be sure that what I do is safe but I must also admit that the best I ever looked in my entire life was a few years ago when I eliminated usable carbs for 3 weeks straight and lifted my ass off in the gym. What are your thoughts?

Bradley R. CollinsParticipantI di it before, I'm redoing it now. No issues. Strength endurance goes down a little toward the end, but for me strength generally remains constant. Certainly there is nothing dangerous about it, you might not feel that energetic, though.

As far as training goes, you need to watch two things when you are low carb: your volume per a given intensity and your workout length. Both of those factors will likely need to be reduced when you are low carb.

BlaxmasParticipantYeah. I definitely felt less strong in the gym yesterday. Usually I can hop on the pullup bar fresh and do 10 reps before I really start failing but last night I was failing at 6 reps. I also did feel considerably less energetic which caused my workout to be shorter. As long as that's all normal, I'm fine with it. Like I said, I just didn't know if lifting hard in the absence of carbs was damaging to muscle tissue or to my body system in general. Thanks.
