Jarret MattaParticipantHas Kiefer or anyone commented about the ingredient “Carrageenan”. Ive heard doctors talk about both the positives and negatives about it. I fell into the anti-carrageenan crowd at first and was going OCD trying to avoid it at all costs. This meant further travel and money to find Heavy Cream. I also switched to Half & Half for my morning Joe, but nothing replaces HWC.Just wanting some comments, responses, and opinions on how the CBL/CNS community is doing with HWC. Thx!

I'm pretty sure he never commented on it. My guess is he doesn't think there's anything wrong with it or else he would say so. I know he doesn't push for organic or even grass fed dairy and thinks conventional dairy is fine. Though he does say there are benefits to raw dairy.

Jenelle BrewerParticipantThough he does say there are benefits to raw dairy.
Right. I have heard Kiefer say that the heavy cream he uses is raw heavy cream. So I doubt there is any carrageenan involved in his.

He also says he uses Land of Lakes cream too, which has carrageenan in it.

Jarret MattaParticipantI have used Promised Land Heavy Whipping cream because it tastes incredible and an easy way to get my fat intake during the first part of the day.Just wondering if anyone else personally uses specific brands that do not use carageenan, or if it more a matter of "hear say"

ladennifer_jadanistonMemberKalona Heavy Whipping Cream does not have it. It also spoils very easily (3-4 days after purchase), is very expensive, and difficult to find.

Melvin McLainParticipantFrom what I understand, the major concern with carageenan is a possibility of digestive problems (nothing seems definite yet). If it doesn't give you any problems, it's not likely an issue. We primarily use Land O Lakes (lol, I didn't even notice/remember it had carageenan) and it seems to work fine on CNS (and previously on Atkins). 🙂

Brian M EckstromParticipantI never really check for that, I'm more concerned with whether or not it has skim milk as an ingredient. I know its a negligible amount, but I'm just anal about stuff like that. I won't use Lawry's either because it has sugar, even though its zero carb per serving.

HeisenbergParticipantI use Trader Joe's heavy whipping cream. The only ingredient listing is “heavy cream”.

Tracy JarchowParticipantNice article! Thanks. Seems to me to be of no concern in the tiny amounts I use.
