Joseph HerrmannParticipantStarted Carbnite on Feb 16th. I have lost a good amount of weight but I’m not really sure where I started at. Clothes fit better and I can see the weight loss in the mirror. Have been lifting Heavy 4 or 5 days a week. Watching my volume and doing my harder workouts the days after my carbnites. Im doing no cardio. All my numbers are going up. My strength is great. However over the last month my weight has been stuck at 220. I had a carbnite and actually weighed myself the next day and was about 218 which I thought was weird. Anyways my weight floated back up and Ive been consistently 220. I appear to still be losing Im just surprised the scale hasn’t budged at all. I decided last weekend that I was going to do a week of Carb backloading. I didn’t do another prep phase I just went right into it. I’ve eaten around 100 to 300 grams of carbs every night in my backloads depending on my training the next day. To spike my insulin Im using whey isolate and carbshock. My main carb source is jasmine rice. I had some fruity pebbles also. Haven’t gone really dirty or anything. Pretty much just chicken and rice. My lifts this week have been great. I’m Hitting numbers that I haven’t before. Feel great. I’m not bloated. Feel lean maybe even leaner than on ULC. Everyday my weight has been consistently 220. Im puzzled. I thought I would at least be gaining. Is this normal and what should I do? My goal is to lose about 20 more pounds but I do want to maintain strength. Should I keep backloading or do another prep phase and get back to Carnbite. Any advice or suggestions would help. Thanks.

Robert HaasParticipantWhere are you at bf% wise? Sounds like you have enough muscle mass to soak up the extra carb intake. That being said if you are in a positive energy balance you are gaining muscle but not putting on fat so the scale is not going to move. Bottom line is to lose fat you are going to have to be in a negative energy balance which might stall the gains in the gym. So, my guess would be yes go back to CN but expect the lean mass gains to stop or at least be minimal.

Joseph HerrmannParticipantThanks for the input. I will be starting my prep phase for carbnite today. Im going to track what I eat a little better. Im aiming for around 150 grams of protein and 150 grams of fat which will put me right around 2000 calories for the day. I have about 35 days until vacation so my goal is to lose hopefully around 10 pounds in that time. We will see though.

Penny DannerParticipant+1 with Tex. I eat 160P/128F on training days and I’m a 47yr old woman who is losing fat with those.

Lesli BortzParticipantI don’t see CNS as the solution. You’re training a lot and CBL will benefit you the most. Doing it for a week is not long enough to tell you anything. I’d stick it out a month and drop the reorientation.

Joseph HerrmannParticipantMy main goal for the next few months is to drop around 20 to 25 pounds. I’ve been lifting heavy since starting carbnite. I also started training simultaneously after taking about 8 months off. My strength has increased and I’ve lost around 15 to 20 pounds on the scale. While doing carbnite, my workouts don’t seem to start to suffer until 7+ days of ULC. I’ve been doing legs twice a week since feb. A lot of heavy squats and heavy deadlifts. My weight for both exercises ranges from 300 to 350 for reps. I actually did about 6 weeks of 5×5 training and recently i changed it up and have been doing Layne Nortons phat workout split just because I like incorporating power and hypertrophy and I seem to be getting great results. So I am conflicted between CN and CBL. I feel that CN will help me lose the weight quicker but my volume of 5 days of lifting and 1 to 2 HIIT sessions suggest CBL. Do I just taper my volume back and stick it out on CN for another month? What do you guy think about Heavy legs 1 day, more volume legs another day, maybe 1 push/pull heavy day and 1 to 2 HIIT sessions? In my head I hate not seeing my lifts going up but It seems to me that in order to lose weight, my numbers will not go up like I want them too. Once I get to my desired BF levels than I feel as if CBL might be smarted for the long haul to help me grow.

Steve CauffielParticipantI have the same problem with “going easy” at the gym; just too many years of going whole hog to just forget all that and go light. However, that being said, I think it’s the smart thing to do and DOES seem to increase the amount of weight lost via CN. Something about central nervous system degradation when lifting too heavy on CN, IIRC? I’m going to do my best to cut my lifts back weight-wise for the next few weeks and see how that works out. CBL is definitely the way to go if you’re looking to gain strength/size.
