biggo78MemberDoes anyone know if taking herbal life shakes nullify the prep phase for carb nite?

Richard SchmittModeratorWhat does it contain? Sounds like it might

biggo78MemberI think it varies. There are different flavors and it looks like it ranges from 2 – 15g of carbs.I think you're right. If these shakes are taken 2 to 3 times a day, it would definitely go beyond 30g of carbs even though the sugar content appears to be low.

Richard SchmittModeratorExactly best kept those usable carbs to veggies or something. Maybe 1 wouldn't hurt?

Nadya TopalovaivanParticipantThe HL formula 1 shake has a lot of carbs. All of the flavours.Totally inappropriate for prep phase imo. HL isn't bad nutrition, but it's far from the best, too. They like to use a lot of soy protein and fructose, both of which are, yeah... crap.No HL shake has place in ULC or low carb diets.

biggo78Memberthanks for the input guys. I'll just have to deliver someone the bad news that they may need to re-do the prep phase properly this time haha.Maybe recommend some HIIT days to shorten the duration.

Nadya TopalovaivanParticipantHIIT to shorten the duration is ok (by 1-2 days that is), but it depends what you have eaten for how long before hand.

TCBParticipantIn addition to everything else that was posted.. You have to keep in mind that liquid food will have a quicker, more drastic effect on blood sugar/insulin levels. Getting food in a liquid form is like having it “pre-digested” already, so your body has to do less work to absorb all the nutrients. So whereas eating 5g of usable carbs may not do much, drinking 5g of usable carbs MAY give an insulin spike.

SpatzModeratorI'm glad someone asked this question! Back when I was doing a lot of kickboxing the …gym?.. I was training in really advocated Herbalife. I personally never tried it because during that time I wasn't concerned with weight loss or muscle gain, I just wanted to punch people. But now that I'm doing CN and going to be doing CBL I had slightly wondered about Herbalife, and later when I transition I probably would have looked into it. If I was going to use it I assume I would just stick at as one of my PWO shakes, however it doesn't sound all that great with all the soy protein. Anyhow, great stuff, thanks for asking biggo, and thanks everyone for the responses.

For the record, HL shakes are mostly overpriced crap.

biggo78Memberyikes. I just looked-up soy protein and its dangers. Thanks Spatz for mentioning that.

SpatzModeratorYou're very welcome biggo! Except it wasn't me, I was just acting like a parrot. ML24 originally mentioned it 😉

SaraParticipantI must have missed the part about no soy protein 🙁 Is tofu really bad for you? My favorite food is soft tofu stew with pork and kimchi and giving that up forever would be worse than giving up cheesecake forever.
