nolan philpottParticipantHi all,My name is Nolan, I'm a Personal Trainer slash Coffee Drinker from the UK. I downloaded CBL back in June after a client asked me about it. I remember reading the CBL article in Muscle and Fitness a few years ago, when I still read muscle and fitness - now I just look at the pictures. I brought it up during my PT course on nutrition and was laughed out of the room. Whilst curled up in the foetal position, my eyes welling up as I clutched tightly onto my copy of M&F and my half eaten apple turnover(It was post workout obviously) I began to doubt my eyes. I put the idea aside, got back into my keto diet with the weekend splurge(I hadn't read about CNS yet either) and made great gains, not so much in size, but leaning out(makes sense, no?). Something strange happened about a year ago - I pulled a muscle in my lower back and my diet went to shit for a week or so. My recovery was quick but my leaning out, which had stalled previously(low carb for a few months) accelerated massively. I leaned out really quickly and managed to stay that way. I had been counting cals, writing a diet log, X grams of fat to Y grams of protein. Didn't really get anywhere. It sparked a memory of CBL and I started researching. I put off buying the book for a while and still made pretty good gains cycling carbs once or twice a week, focusing more on weekly cals rather than daily. I guess I read the books arse-backwards - I downloaded CBL first, read it, enjoyed it - bought CNS, read it, enjoyed it - tried Shockwave(I like ELECT and the ridiculous looks I got from the overly-explosive warm up sets,"It's pure physics" I'd say to the frowners) and continue to refer back to DH, the biojacked podcasts, articles and such, trying to stay ahead at all times.Looking forward to over-analyzing the minutia with you all! I'm not being sardonic - I'm totally aware that it happens to the very best of us. So 1g of coconut oil left me starving for weeks......

Muscle upGuestAnother PT slash coffee drinker from the UK here, whereabouts are you based?Regarding what you said about your time whilst injured, had you been following the no/low carb diet and then almost 'refed' whilst injured which helped you to lean out?

Hey - I'm in Norwich, Norfolk. Basically yes - I was counting macros incessantly; X grams of protein to X grams of fat to X grams of carbs - it was ridiculous. I did lean out from doing that but it plateaued really quickly. Had I known that all I needed to do was have a really shitty carb feast then I would've. Then I had the injury and that's exactly what I did do. I tore a glute med. The great thing was that I was back deadlifting after 10 days - no pain. I really don't get why fitness models in the UK still prep like that. I felt crappy - except on carb refeed days. Even then though I didn't feel "amazing" like after a carb backload refeed. The carbs were really clean; oats, whole grain rice, etc Backloading has helped massively and quickly. I'm only backloading twice a week at the moment and working out 4 days a week;Mon - Workout & backload(200g)Tues - Workout & PWO carbs only(20g)Weds - Ultra low carbThurs - Workout - backload(200g)Fri - Workout & PWO carbs only(20g)Sat - ultra low carbSun - ultra low carb with a small carb meal(50g) last thing. It's suiting me fine so far.

Muscle upGuestAh, i'm in Birmingham.I don't know if you've had a look at my 'introduce yourself' thread above yours, but i'm considering backloading twice per week from now on. what are your goals with the process?I think I might have that same 'problem' as you though, and that if I went ape shit for a day or two on carbs i'd probably have that whoosh that would help me in the long run. Always had trouble letting go though!
