JigsawCodeParticipantThanks for sharing.I noticed this info was derived from a study done in 2008. Just a heads up, I believe this was before Kellogg Company switched all their cereals to whole grains. Granted, I bet they're pretty processed as far as whole grains go leaving them with a higher GI than most whole grains, but who knows. I just thought I'd point that out. And DAMN, I've been eating Uncle Ben's thinking it was considered normal white rice. Converted rice is lower GI I guess 🙁 uh oh

I believe it is because the sweetener in Gatorade/Powerade is high fructose corn syrup. This type of sweetener can bypass certain pathways and go straight to fat storages, even though muscle glycogen may be depleted. Am I right guys?

jbuberelGuestAnother great tool/resource is the nutritiondata.self.com database, which provides a fairly complete breakdown including GI Load as well as carb and amino acid profiles for ~ every food item. Example: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1809/2

No, it's the fructose. It doesn't matter if it's High-fructose Corn Syrup or Sucrose/cane Sugar. They are both 50% fructose and will have the same effect. While a little bit of sweets isn't bad, most people should stick to mostly starches. I believe gatorade powder uses mostly dextrose as it's sweetner. That should be ok to use. Just make sure to check the ingredients.
